considering it but where do you go from, carpark on the island or from along the beach? i'm assuming the first but my family are keen for a drive on the beach.

Yep, from the carpark on Hindmarsh Island.

Beach side is off-shore and several meters deep almost straight away. There are also currents.

I wish I could go myself today, the wind looks great over there!.

I've been off the beach and the carpark several times.

The beach is fine if you can kite ok, drive along the beach, then rig up right next to the water, its great, nice flat water. Besides it only takes seconds to get to the other side if you got into trouble.

I was down there today and went from the car park and must have been down there on low tide, as there was the massive sandbar meters out from the beach, but was happy to discover it was waist deep, which was no where near that deep last time I was there. It was great. But the water is so murky you have no idea how deep it is, or what is beneath you.

Anyone know if it's changed much down there now that there is water in the river? Is there much water flowing out yet? Have the dredges moved out? I'm assuming the mouth proper is no longer a particularly safe plae to kite?

The wind looks better at Parham today then it is at the Mouth - and it's cross-on in the afternoon.

Every time I have been there, in the past couple of years, there has been a massive sandbar just meters from the beach, so not sure what is was like years ago, but does not seem much more water recently. Would have been strange seeing the mouth nearly closed over years ago, but since I have been there it has been deep.

The water does rip through the mouth, and is quite deep, so not a good spot to lose your board as it would cruise out of the mouth into the ocean pretty quickly. You would want to know what you are doing kiting at the opening, but there is plenty of water to kite in near the beach and as you head towards Goolwa.

The dredge is gone, which is good, as it got in the way.

It's just very murky, thats the only fault with it I reckon.
