As a kid I remember heading down goolwa beach to the Murray Mouth in the 4WD and fishing. I vaguely recall a wave breaking on the coorong side of the dunes when the barrages were open. A mate and I were talking about it the other day and it looks like it might pop up again? Any ideas? Anyone else heard of this phenomenon? Would be great to kite if in the right direction?

I've been to Murray Mouth 4 times in the last 2 months (most recently yesterday), but I've seen no waves on the inside of the mouth - its as flat as it gets.

I head down the mouth pretty often also, and I've never seen a wave. There could be a wave with the barrage being open, but last time I was down it wasn't, and that was a few weeks ago. Also, to kite on the coorong side, the wind would have to be going easterly, which gets really gusty and crap. Is there any chance you could surf this wave?

I've seen a standing wave caused by the tidal movements.
The nearby lakes fill up with the rising tide, then drain at different rates, so the water level from the north is slightly higher than the south, causing a wave at the junction near the mouth.
I would't swim near it.
