Hi guys and gals, been reading this forum for a while but only just signed up. Was out this morning at Largs but was struggling to get up on my LF Assault 9mtr, i think i should have had the 14 Havoc out. I was also having an issue relaunching as the kite kept on folding in on itself slightly and loading up with water, maybe not pumped up hard enough? Before anyone tees off, I have had a lesson and done the self rescue stuff, but can anyone tell me where I was going wrong in these conditions? the BOM report said 14 knots SW with gusts to 17 knots.
Any constructive advice would be appreciated.....
Cheers

Hey Will, Guessing that your body weight would be over 70kgs, a 9m in 14 to 17 knots is a too small a kite to get you going.
You definately need to pump your kite up more, if you are unsure on how much to pump up your kite, flick the leading edge about a foot or so from the inlet valve and listen for a pinging sound and not a dull thud.
If you have anymore questions feel free to send me a PM.

Cheers Croc

Yep pump it up but also when you relaunch with LF kites let go of the bar and just grab the back line which you want to steer the kite up with. (don't wrap it around your finger) Once the kite is in the air then get hold of the bar. often, if you hold on to the bar and sheet in too much you will stall the kite back into the water particularly in light winds. Use this technique when you self launch on the beach too.

cheers to both of you, i will try the pulling the line only suggestion because i found that it was stalling back into the water a couple of seconds after launching. the kite i was using was too small for those conditions anyway by the sounds. cheers again

Will if you have a black kite then I was watching you for a few minutes. It looked to me, like pintofpale says, that you where just sheeting in too much. You were fighting it backwards. to much bar action.
