Hey can anyone fill me in on the permit system at Semaphore? I'm from Port Noarlunga and went kiting at Semaphore the other day and noticed the sign that a permit is needed. How do you get one and is it enforced? Does everyone that kites there get a permit?

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield's beaches run from Fort Glanville to Outer Harbour.
They have designated beaches for wind powered sports - no kite boarding south of the Largs Bay Jetty, and you must be a member of SAKSA and display your tag north of the jetty.
I haven't heard of the rules being enforced - the main issue is the council limiting its liability by only allowing club memebers to use the beach - the club has a code of conduct and the members have insurance.

Hi guys,
I queried this matter with the council last week and they've indicated that their Ranger is being sent down on windy days to enforce the rules. Apparently a couple of people have already been caught out.
They're fully supportive for riding north of the Largs jetty but the new SAKSA tag (blue) needs to be on display.
Cheers

Martin- if you log onto SAKSA.com.au you can download a membership form and send it to the po box listed with a cheque. Alternatively, if you want to pay in person give me a call on 0418 828 603 and I am more than happy to take your money.

So by "permit" do the council mean a SAKSA tag? Is that all you need or is there some other council permit or fee?

Good query.
The actual Permit is the arrangement between SAKSA and the council. All paid SAKSA members are covered by the permit but you need to show the blue tag as evidence of the membership. Basically, blue tag in permit zones = no fine...Hope it helps!
Cheers

Just for all to know - they cannot bust you on the water-if your ankles are wet you are out of there juristriction, and would be surprised if they would fine you if you are in a designated kiteboarding zone and not a memeber.

Outside the zone they may be more rigid but they only can bust you on the beach and they cannot demand your name so there ability to enforce there pathetic ban is limited.

Good to see they are going down when it is windy when typically there are no other users on the beach, who are they protecting?

Just another example of local government ****ers bullying a small group.

kitesurfers rescue people at local beach, council bans kitesurfing following week, good to see your rate money being put to good use.

Hi ho Tonto

My understanding is that the rules apply to all wind-powered sports, so although you don't need to be a member of a club, your sailboarding is also restricted to north of the Largs jetty.

Now get back to reviewing my report....
