Hey guys, girls,

How are we?

Got a cousin who's living in Port Broughton for a while and about to start kiting.

Just trying to find out what the area's like for kiting?
Anybody kiting around Port Broughton?

Any help appreciated.

Hi mate,
i have not looked at the Pt Broughton set up, so cant really comment on that. but i have kited the beach at a tiny little town north of Pt Pirie, sorry cant remember the name. Has a long fishing jetty, great flat water, and shallow for ages. That might be a bit far north though. How about ticera (not sure on spelling) beach? i have never kited there but i know its popular with the pole huggers, sorry, i mean windsurfers.

i reakon that place with the jetty might be port germaine.
it looks a likely spot too. have been meaning to go there one day.

i thought pt broughton looked like a good spot (or a few) but i haven't investigated properly.

Hey there,
I have a shack at fisherman's bay which is about 5 kms north of port broughton, been going there for holidays for 20 plus years. The beach between broughton and fisherman,s bay which is 5 km north is a little rocky. The water is fairly shallow and rocky and depending on the tide could be a fair way out. Last year I decided to get into kiting. I mainly go to wallaroo, moonta or port hughes when I can. Have wanted to try broughton but because of this reason I haven't. Fisherman's bay is much the same, rocky beach but would be ok on a n/w or s/w to shoot back and fourth across the bay.
Tickera is another option, been there a couple of times crabbing looks the goods.
Gibo... the beach you where talking about north of port pirie is telowie beach. It is a great beach shallow long and sandy, its only downfall is its a tidal beach and somedays you would have to travel a km to get to the water, really have to pick the tides.
Thats one good thing about kiting, exploring new spots to try....hope this helps guys

Hey,
ive just signed up and was reading these posts cuz its close to home, i have a shack on weeronna island between pirie and germein, and its a great spot for kiting in germein bay. yes its tidal but plenty of area to set up and no real regulations YET!
its a quiet place so keep it that way dont want to ruin it.

Thanks guys,

It's great to be able to get some info when asking.

Cous' seems pretty convinced that there are a few spots close to broughton which will do the trick. He has been taking the slightly rocky beaches into consideration but is sure that he's found a couple of spots not affected by the rocks.

Cheers for all of your help

Hi guys,

I am also new to kiting and was thinking that I was alone on this part of the planet with regards to kiting.

I was originally from Port Pirie and have holidayed in Pt broughton / Fishermans Bay for around 40+ years.

Recently,(on my way to my shack at fishermans Bay)I scoured the coast from North Beach at Wallaroo through to Fisherman Bay logging spots for kiting.

The only points I could add to "Skylimit" would be:

The southern end of the Broughton bay would be good at higher tides but the winds may be flukey, also I could not see any really good landing areas in this part of Broughton.

A small sandy beach 5km north of Tickera (browns beach I think).

Webling point (further west on the gulf) 5 km from Pt. broughton, this is again, tidal but has sand rather than shellgrit and less rocks.

The "other side" of Fishermans Bay (the coast leading north from the bay).

I have catamaranned & sailboarded for many years at Fishermans Bay and find the winds are gusty in the bays.

The good points for Webling, "The Other side", Germain and Telowie is the flat (minimal swell, no surf) water with very open fetches of onshore wind from Nth thru West to south.

Hopefully I will be able to catch up with you northerly flyers at some stage as I had limited options as a lone kiter in this area.
