Is there still a committee ? Who do we contact to find out ?

Hi Geoff
I think the only person that did try to organize anything was sykes.

But it would be a good thing to get going. Only problem about arranging events is the insurance issues and the local councils, AKSA should be able to help out with that.

But other states (WA) seem to be able to arrange it. Even posting on here and word of mouth all seems to travel and get people out.

It was good to see even though i was just a spectator.

Well Will has made the point that we need a united body, ie an association to look after the best interests of the sport. Things like a state freestyle and waveriding title are a necessity to start fostering some elite riders and some meet and greets to promote a stronger community. A broad range of groups needs to be represented so if people can start to show their interest maybe we can get something back up and running.

I think i speak for many others when i say that SA has many riders and many wiked untapped spots. why should we sit in the shadows of places like VIC. An association needs to be formed and if possible interest from all areas of the sport from waves to freestyle to maybe even a freeride crew.
put my name down, this aint a sport its a lifestyle, lets look after it.

For those who don't know the history SAKSA was formed to provide a means of getting people to National titles and having an association for riders rather than having the shops running the sport.

More recently with the beach closures etc SAKSA is the right organisation to represent the sport to councils and the like.

Late last season a meeting has held to discuss the beach closures. It was held at a time and place agreed to by all shops and SAKSA to create a colabrative approach to the problem. For whatever reason only one shop fronted along with about a dozen riders. At the meeting at least 4 or 5 riders put up their hands to help SAKSA and deal with the beach issues.

It was suggested to SAKSA that if they held a follow-up meeting they would have plenty of helpers but for whatever reasons it was too hard.

It's good to see the riders are keen to get the sport up and running.

So what we need is a keen group of people representing all groups and to follow through with what we start. I think the next step is to spread the word that we are going to have a meeting. We need to decide on a time and a place and promote it. I didn't know about the last one so reaching as many people as possible is important. Notices/flyers in the shops that sell the kit, a post on seabreeze and word of mouth at the beaches, any others ? I have had emails from people involved with other associations offering help with how to go about getting it all up and running well. Any ideas on the best place to hold a meeting ? From what I hear alot of people sat back last time and then whinged about what was happening. Get involved and have your say.

Well I have tried to find Robert but can't hunt him down. Alot of other people have shown interest though and this is encouraging. We need to agree on some goals for the sport, a direction to head in and how to get there. The things that seem to be most important are-

1) Safety, making sure we behave in a responsible manner that will keep the general public safe and our fellow kiters, this in turn will maintain our access to the beaches.

2) Comps, we have hot riders here who deserve more exposure and running good comps with media coverage and crowds will not only promote the sport but bring in more sponsorship dollars. Wave and freestyle state championships ?

3) Social, getting everyone together and having fun.

I have spoken with a few people and it seems like we need to have a meeting and follow up what is decided. At the meeting we need everybody represented, from the Sunday punter to the ambitious pro. As a tentative date we are saying the first Tuesday in March at a time and place to be advised. If you would be keen to nominate to be on a committee or hold an office start thinking about whether you can spare the time.

Shop loyalties and all the rest aside we need to focus on the good of the sport and push it forward !

Hey all, we are trying to organise a private room for the meeting- if anyone has any contacts that would be helpful. The meeting time has been agreed as 8pm to give everyone a chance to go for a ride if the breeze is up !

Hey,

Would you guys be able to keep me in the loop with how you go on this as I'd love to be able to put updates in the female kitersurfing newsletter I write every three months about what's going on in SA. Would be great to hear what's going on down there and find some girls!

If you know of any girls who kite at the moment from SA who I can get in touch with would be most grateful if you could let me know or send me a PM.

You can find the newsletters on the NSWKBA website.

Thanks
Caelah
