I watched on you tube a group of people having fun kite sailing SUP boards
As a someone with several SUP boards and looking a for a fun activity to do on a windy day does/would this combination work o.k?
I have never kite sailed before and if this is good idea, whats a suitable kite and harness (is it called a harness?) I should look for
Cheers

If you have never kiteboarded before sup kiting isn't going to be an easy thing to learn.

Get some kiteboarding lessons and if you like it get some grear.

Then if the wind drops out just go for a paddle. Kite plus sup isn't worth the effort, get a pole board or a yacht if light wind cruising is your thing

I think you could get around on s SUP with a small kite.

I use a 3m foil kite on my wave ski, and can make it go upwind. The board doesn't plane, but with the fins providing sideways resistance you can point into the wind.

No need for a harness with a small kite, just hold on to the bar and being able to move the bar around helps with balance and adjusting the location of the pull point Helps with steering.

let me know if you want to try one of my smaller kites with the SUP... I'll join you.

This is sounding rather dangerous to me Mick for someone who has never kited before. Lessons and Public Liability insurance are a must if you were going to try this sort of thing. While it sounds like fun we should all remember we need to be safe out there, not only for our own safety but for that of other beach users as well. We certainly dont want a incident on the beach jeopardizing beach access for all!

Yep, good points Rooboy. Definitely don't try a sup with kite combo, until you're a competent kiteboarder. The two don't match under normal conditions, so it would be prudent to be proficient in both skills before trying to combine them.

Yeah I agree I wouldn't try it as an introduction to kiteboarding, just as a novelty for experienced and insured kiters in light wind.

And I've recently discovered that it is highly dependent on the SUP. I tried it on a race board that doesn't steer in the same way as every other board I've tried... When you lean left it goes straight or slightly to the right... No chance. i think you'd need a surfing style SUP.
