Hey fellow radelaiders, ex darwin kiter here. Just wondering what the story is with people that kite at Henley. Today for example, i got down there at 4:30, must have been blowing 20 - 22 knots (bit much for my 12 anyway..) when i arrived there must have been 15 kites out. Within 20 mins though they had all packed up and headed off, even though the wind was still blasting. Seemed odd that everyone would leave that quick. Had me worried that there was a shark or something?
Anyway, i find that henley seems to attract kiters independent of the wind, and in large groups. Another example was last week on a weekday i drove past at about 3 (about 17-18 knots), nobody was out so I headed down to semaphore where there were a few kites. On the way back there was like 10 kites out at henley??
as much as a like the space, I get a bit worried when the wind is whipping but there are no other kiters around, can't help thinking that there is something that everyone else knows that i don't. Anyway, anyone know whats going on? do adelaide kiters tend to 'flock' together?, or whats the story?

About yesterday: I think a lot of people keep an eye on the wind strength and direction (via BOM site, etc.) and, when it's a goerthey go to the nearest beach. For many in and around the city, that's Henley. Yesterday everyone was waiting for the sea breeze, then when it came in properly, they went down for an hour or two on the water then left. I counted 40, probably at 4 pm. By 5 I was stuffed, so were most others, I suspect.

Hey,
I find that sometimes during the week I'm kiting down there on my own and once work finishes there are loads of kiters. But by the time that happens I'm knackered!! It seems a great place to kite with a variety of different sea conditions to suit most riders. Just get down there, ride, and have fun.
