Here are some pics from Sunday's session at Southport, mainly of me but hey, i am the one with the camera on the kite. Great session had by all i would say.
Here are some more pics, also, in the next few days i will put some photos up of the kite camera holder i have made as a few people have expressed interest. heaps cheaper than the one on camrig.com, although the site does have some good tips on camera's and editing.
Yep sweet photo's. Am I asking the obvious here, does the camera need to be waterproof or can you just use any old digital camera in a waterproof case?
I am using the pentax optio W60, which is waterproof to 3 or 5 metres. It has an interval shoot function which you set up, and it takes pics every ten seconds (minimum inteval availible on current model). olympus also make a waterproof camera (also shock proof) however the current models do not have an interval shoot function. both of these models have a movie mode which you can also use from a kite rig. see www.camrig.com for some recommedations on camera suitibility. The problem with normal camera's with housings is they are often heavy and bulky. As for the kite rig, i used a $25 camera case from K Mart, added some straps and padding from left over wetsuit material (stubby holder i think), and some velcro.
I will upload some photos of the rig as soon as the seabreeze gremlins are sorted out.
One note for anyone thinking about trying out a kite cam, for the rig i have made up you need a kite which has a gap between the strut and the canopy (near the leading edge) for the straps to go around. I know SS REV's have this, also i think CABS. Full list of compatibility on www.camrig.com, also i think camrig may have a solution to a fully attached strut.
