Also make sure it's tight around your ankles if you get a steamer. If water shoots up your leg from the board, you'll carry a few kgs just around the shins. I rate the Ripcurl Ultimate e2 as its super warm and stretchy but I have to tape my ankles up...

Im with sinbad, the oneil psycho 2 is a great wet suit. Its not cheap but is worth every cent when you step into the water at this time of year.

you lot are saying its cold at the moment and making reference to 3 mm wetsuits ???

is it cold relative to your climate or is it cold that you need to wear thicker than 3 mm wetsuits?

i have a sac of torn ripped hammered5/4 mm steamers - do i bring them or bin them - there good when its windchill of minus 6 degrees.....

HTFU if you think you know what cold is

Its not about cold and HTFU, it gets down to in 3 months time we kitesurf in shorts and rashie.
If you want to have a long session, you might as well be comfortable.

5mm is too thick, the 2/3 in a good elasto makes for a good comfy session. If its a good brand, 2/3 should be fine

Hey kanga, from Tassie or NZ are ya. Just for the record, the water temp here in the winter months gets down as low as 11 degrees around the Victor Harbour beaches and a couple of degrees warmer in the gulfs. So if you can handle that in a springy, your a harder man than me. Personally i've got a 4/3 for surfing and 3/2 for kiting.
See ya in the water soon.
Cheers kitecroc

no croc im from the nw of england -

gloves ballaclavers 5/4 steamer with thermal rash vests and neoprene socks - air temp 6 degrees max wind chill down to minus 7/8 so our low water temps mean nolt with wind chill effect and on our side of the coast we get the warmer gulf stream too!!!

2 hrs if ur lucky and ur limping off the water with ice cream headaches - 4 months of the year we play safe and surf more than freestyle cos you just cant last more than 3/4 hard draggings in ice cold water - painfully cold like youve never tasted.....

seems like my 5/4 full of holes will do - then again i expect my gear to arrive by october - with my injuries ill have been off water 6 months in total - now thats killer but i learnt to HTFU

victor harbour will be my first trip when i get a car - lovely spot and middleton looks great for downwinders in the surf ?

im sure ill be learning some of the names to these faces on beaches in september - look forward to joining the crew and wamer waters year round - amen

cool sinbad - we get plenty from east coast visiting us on the west
small fyld market town 8 miles from blackpool - some great venues for kitesurfing here from butter flat lagoons to decent surf albet mushy onshore but occassionally down the line - also we get good wind statistics year round so its not a bad part of the world for kitesurfing and the famous nighs out of blackpool [}:)]- yuk!!!

thanks i read the website of south central often - love the photos - seaview downs is where we will be for 6 months so im assuming equal distance- in driving time - to semaphore and aldinga???

will have to wait for arrival of my gear but i intend to do the visits and paperwork for permits so im ready to launch and play by the rules - killing me having my gear in storage it is but 9 weeks on monday til we arrive - not sure mrs w ill let me ride too much till ive got a job of some sort but she understands im an addict - i quit last year cos of my addiction to kitesurfing......was the worse 20 minutes of my life

ill be popping into the onshore shop at glenellg for the local scene lowdown as my first point of contact and ask there who to avoid and who needs the mugaccinos etc

hope thw winds blowing for you

p.s.

are there any videos clips of local action on websites anywhere showing off the adelaide scene?

Hey kanga, yep, it sounds like your from a bloody cold part of the world for kiting or anything else for that matter. HTFU comment paid. You will be getting here just in time for our kite season and warmer water, great timing. Welcome for when you get here, it wont take to long for you to meet all the crew.
Cheers kitecroc

I bought XXX 3mm seam sealed steamer. Its too hot when you first use it drink lots of water or you will dehydrate. Once its broken in it becomes more managable!
