Planning on heading over to South Africa with my kite gear for 20 days. Leaving Perth and arriving in Johannesburg 4:30am on 5th Feb. Renting a car and driving down to Durban and along the coast to Cape Town. Stopping along the way at various kiting spots such as Coffee Bay, Port Elizabeth, Knysna, Langebaan, etc. Drop the car in Cape Town and fly back to Joburg on the 22nd Feb 12:15pm. Depart Joburg that night at 9pm back to Perth. Let me know if you're keen! ASAP.

I use to live in Durban many years ago and still visit Family in Cape Town
The roads in the Transkei District have a reputation of being shocking.
Most people I know there go from Durban to Cape Town via Bloemfontien

I would do the trip the other way around
Start In Cape Town. Drive to East London up the coast Fly home or if time alows then head inland through Bloem spend a day or two in the Drakensberg mountains
Durban up the coast to Lake St Lucia

Sounds like an awesome trip mate, do be safe over there. As the years go by SA is getting more and more dangerous. I head there with my missus every year or so to see the family. Can definitely see the dynamics changing.

Why not try to sort your trip out to line up with Red Bull's King of the Air.

Travelling through the Transkei is not something you do at night, neither do you do it alone. Unlike Australia, you wont just be able to park-up your van and go for a kite thinking "she'll be right". Loosing your van to theft is not the worst outcome, they don't call that the "wild coast" only for the scenery.

I'm being a bit negative - sorry. Used to go riding motorcycles in coffee bay area and always had a good time. Giggle weed grows all over the place!
