How's the water up there? Thinking of heading down this arvo. Been kiting at brighton and although it's still a bit smelly haven't been sick or anything.
I spent all Friday night in the brack brown water of st. kilda, not sickness, I doubt Altona can be worse than the harbour:)
speaking of Altona: is anyone heading down there and has a spare seat and space for one more board and stuff in their car? would be great to catch a ride to down there. (0411346981)
I don't know about getting sick but it is depressing riding around in black water with stuff floating around in it and garbage all over the tide line. Yuk!!
My solution was to go down the coast for the weekend. Beautiful clean water, nice waves, sunshine. Good, if not epic, conditions.
water was fine yesterday (fine for altona that is). if you're used to brighton then altona is always gonna seem like a cesspool. if it doesn't kill you it may make you stronger, or it may just make your poop glow in the dark (mine does).
Interestingly enough we had the usual cabrinha in a tree on Friday evening. Lots of guys helping get the kite out of the tree (female driver of the kite) but if it was a guy that flew it in everyone would probably have just watched and let him get it out on his own. Told the girl it wasn't her fault, cabrinha's are just attracted to trees. Fortunately the kite came out unscathed. The tree on the other hand had some war injuries.
Ah love my cabs but hate the stigma attached to them. By the end of the year ill be jumping on the bandwagon though;) I'm at altona now waiting patiently
It's not just cabs, and not just ladies who get help. At the start of this summer I helped pull a vegas out of a tree at Altona. Just like the cab on Friday, the kiter in question did not seek or accept the first available opportunity to get a land from another kiter. Self-landing when others are around is not just foolish from a safety perspective, it's anti-social.

From what I remember chatting to her, I don't think it was a landing issue - I remember her saying something about getting dragged up the beach but I didn't see the incident. A hadlow pro also found its way into a really really really small tree on Saturday morning although it was an issue with a self launch.
I was still on the water (best session for a while I might add!) when it happened, but heard from another kiter that he offered her a land but she declined and then a few seconds later ...
Whatever it was, hopefully some lessons were learned.
