I read alot of the stuff on this page and see a lot of beginners getting in trouble in spots that have alot of non kiters around the beach or spots that have heaps of kites on the water which both make it hard to lean.
Just want to let you know there are a number of realy good lake spots around ballarat that are not much more than an hour drive from melbourne cbd that may be an option.
There are all the normal risks accociated with kiting no where is risk free but some of the plusses inclued
Almost any wind direction has a spot to kite from as you can simple drive around the other side of the lake or as I do shift lakes as they all have thier best spot
This time of the year the lakes are down a bit so you can get out quite along way and still stand up which is reasuring if your perfecting you body drags
You dont have to worry about getting eaten by a shark
If you want to know more just drop me an email
Worth making the note that from hear on in to winter at 400mt above sea level and fresh water it dose get a little nippy

Hey, thanks for the tip (I'm hoping there's more water in lake Learmonth than shown on Google Earth?).
Both look quite Treey. Are there decent places to launch from away from Trees... It's my biggest fear as a newbie.

Hey Jack,
Be very interested to hear more about these lakes. When i was 18 (a long time ago i used to waterski / wakeboard there) before they dried up. Now they are back in full swing. My family is up that way so when i am up I could potentially sneak over for a quick session.
Do you get out there much? Whats the wind like and where do you take readings from? Best times of day?
Cheers

Just something to be aware of:
1. Inland lakes = pretty gusty so don't expect clean wind.
2. The further downwind you go on the lake, the cleaner the wind is. Its more choppy down wind but its also far less gusty. The further the wind travels over water, the clean and less gusty it becomes.
