I have been kiting Rosebud in the northerlies with some success.

But how should I approach Mentone / Hampton / Aspendale in the S-SW? I guess I need to body drag into the deep water before attempting a water start?

I'm really not keen on going to St Kilda - just too crowded.

I went out at Mentone today and had some success body draging into the deep water without my board. But it all turned to custard when I returned to the beech and got my board. Part of the problem was all to many people on the beach who had no idea how hazardous I am too them.

Try Hampton or Brighton, Brighton is busier but a little more beginner friendly. Hampton you'll have mobs of space but need to be able to to up wind and down wind with some success.

Balnarring is good if you are keen to drive.

No one on the beach but there are buoys in the water..

Practice dragging upwind, with and without the board... then a lot more space opens up. :)

Balnarring in a SW? Sounds good I'll have to keep that in mind! What are the waves like there?

I feel your pain... just finished my lessons with Peninsulta Kitesurfing and I'm about to buy all the gear. Let's see how it goes when I'm on my own surrounded by more people... scary :)

Hey guys

I'm not a pro-kiter or an instructor. I do live in Melbourne, I love kiting and I get out almost every weekend.

I remember what it was like when I first learning, a combination of excitement and fear. I was lucky to have friends that looked after me once I had finished my lessons, bought some gear and started to head out on my own.

If you guys (open invitation) are looking for some kiters to keep an eye on you and check on your gear setup, give you some tips etc on the hazards of various locations around Melbourne, give me a message and we can catch up.

Cheers

Isaac
