With the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Hindenberg event, St Kilda kiters held a rehearsal for the commemorative reenactments on the day of the anniversary, May 6.
With a good session by all ending abruptly at 7:38pm, no less than 12 kiters recreated the Hindenberg zeppelins spectacular fall from the skies over Manchester.
One zealous participant was indeed so committed to the accuracy of the recreation that he executed the Hindenburg plummet on the road and narrowly failed to take out a car (a token respectful nod to the fatalities of the original event). The organisers do not condone such risky ad lib actions, but impressed by the attempt at authenticity.
We would like to thank all who volunteered and participated in the rehearsal and show respect to our historic fellow brethren of flying inflated things that occasionally crash.

The dude is saying people love kite flying in marginal wind conditions with no respect for the community, motor vehicles or the reputation of kiteboarding by dropping their kites on cars, other beach users, boats etc

some could call it humorous

Thanks, Missed that.

So there's certain individuals who intentionally fly kites in marginal wind and cause damage to their own gear and others at the beach.

?!!! Don't think so.

No, there was a dramatic and sudden wind drop at St Kilda yesterday and I have never seen 12 kites do the Hindenburg in a 10 minute space. It was indeed remarkable.
The wind was solid 20 knots all afternoon and suddenly dropped.
Nothing untoward with the actions of the kiters caught in the sudden doldrums.
But still a bit remarkable, and I enjoyed writing the anecdote.
I thought it might be an amusing angle on the scene.
