Welcome Campbell. Phuket Kiting eh. Nai Yang beach?

This is a tricky time to learn. Winter winds are unpredictable, and gusty, meaning you can be over powered one minute, and have your kite drowning in the water the other.

However there is plenty of good and safe kiting to be had. Pick a beach where the wind is onshore I.e. the arrow of the wind is directly on to the beach (check out seabreeze weather or an alternative like www.baywx.com.au).

Your best bet is to go to St. Kilda beach as it's deep and 'friendly' to inexperienced kiters... or more so than most places.

Never kite where the wind is off shore

Always have back up until you get more experienced.

yeah was at nai yang beach for 2 weeks.
i thought st kilda beach had the wrong winds at the moment? all of them being off shore.
was thinking of going down to rosebud on saturday as its a NW 16 knot wind. or is there a better place to go for that wind?

Hey Campbell,

I was in Nai Yang a few weeks back. Who'd you do your lessons with? I hired my gear from kiteboardingasia. Did you manage to avoid that spot with the surf? I didn't!

Yeah, this time of year, it is my opinion Rosebud is best. There tends to be more wind at rosebud than anywhere else, it tends to be less gusty, and there is a fair bit of space that way.

That said, this time of year, it's no guarantee. There was a cross shore breeze yesterday at St. K, I think, so you've really got to assess it on the day.

Hey Campbell,

I'm in the same position, I've had a few lessons and have a kite - msg me if you head down to Rosie (I live in Rosebud).

Ill be out tomorrow with the lighter winds.

But - People are all super nice - you should be pretty ok with finding someone more than happy to help launch and land your kite.
