Hi all!!
I am planning on going to live to Australia and I am trying to decide which city to chose, Melbourne or Brisbane. One of the main factors for my decision is whether I am going to be able to go kitesurfing during the week after work.
My question to all of you is, "From your experience, is there good wind between 6pm and 8pm in October-March?" The type of answer I am looking for is "There is good wind an average of twice a week", "There is good wind an average of twice a month", "No good wind during those hours...." any comments are more than welcome! :)
I look forward to hearing back with your comments/opinions.
Peace,
Javi

Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb. on average 3-4 after work kite sessions per week and light until around 8:30 -9pm so plenty of time after work.
May, June, July, August is an entirely different scenario... Too dark after work, cold but still around 1-2 sessions a fortnight

Perth has lots of wind that time of year.

If you live in St Kilda and work in the city you can be out on the water by 6pm if you get away from the office at 5 (assuming you are working in an office in the city). I used to live in an apartment across the road from the kitebeach. I don't think Brisbane has that kind of quick accessibility to kite areas that Melbourne has. The seabreeze in Melbourne is very consistent and reliable from late December to March.

I do exactly that (when lucky enough to leave at 5), it's awesome!! However this week has been disappointing :(

I've tried to do that 2 times this week and by the time I get there, it's under 0 knots... yes, anti wind... not cool.

Agree with Mr. Potter on this one - in general you can kite 3-4 times a week in Melbourne during summer - the seabreeze around St Kilda is generally fairly reliable. There will be variances where you can kite every day, then dodgy weeks where there is not much on.
In Winter, if you are keen, you can get up early and go and grab a northerly down the coast. If kiting is all you want to do and you have no other distractions, I reckon you could get 1-2 sessions a week over winter too (counting early sessions and weekend's driving to where the wind is).
The trick is to work out the forecasting sites that work for you and get an understanding of the wind. Good luck !

during the summer the seabreeze is reliable. I kite almost everyday after work. from 630 to 9:00 pm. During the winter north and the nasty west winds. Melbourne is amazing place to kite.
