Hi All,
i might move in Melbourne in a year from now. I've been reading a lot on your spots and still i could not make my mind if Melbourne is better than Sydney. which of the town is more consistent during the year? and then, is it as cold as they write around?
I love flat spots as well as wave ones as much as i do love surfing.

If you were in my shoes, where would you suggest to move and have the most our of it, having the choice among the 2?
thank you in advance and who knows, we might meet soon!
regards!

Hi Magotom,

Ive spent plenty of time in NSW and Sydney, Currently live in Melbourne. Victoria in general gets more wind than Sydney, but on the flip side the wind we get can be really gusty.

As you might have read there's plenty good spots outside of Melbourne.

I would Say Victoria receives more consistent wind, but is a lot colder during winter.

I would live where your best work propects lye, with exception of supporting family members.

thank you sandfoot.

work wise is the same company with different establishment. so does not really matter where to them. it matter to me and my family...also kiters and surfers.

so we are looking for the best place to be, in order to be happy beside work.

thank you!

Hi
Melb & Syd are both big cities. Commute times can be a real pain. I would check travel times to work, beach & where you would want to live. Living/working an hour plus from the beach is a big factor too!

I'd say Sydney is a better tourist city, but the things that make Sydney beautiful for tourists make it a nightmare to live.

You will be happy in both locations so I wouldn't worry.

Thank you all.
In Melbourne our offices are 15min from kilda beach while in Sydney almost 40 min away from botany...

Said there are no differences among the 2 in quality and quantity of wind, I will be then happy with the choice of Melbourne.

In melbs, you are looking at 1.5 hours to the closest ocean beach - which is why I took up kiting. Surf can get too gnarly for kiting on the open beaches so you might go to more protected spots such as westcoast or westernport. The bay can usually throw up a half decent windswell when the wind is over 20 knots to get your wave fix.

I lived in Sydney for 3 years and for surfing it's a much better place to be for access and warmer water, although summer there is no swell and lots of blueys. When there is no swell there is nowhere to go. Vicco has some classic spots like Bells, Winki, 13th or Gunnamatta when they are on they are unbeatable than anything I have ever seen in Sydney.

Kiting wise our bay is massive compared to Botany and is open to kiting pretty much anywhere so plenty of places to explore. Don't limit yourself to St Kilda.
