Hola!
I'll come to Melbourne to see some friends for a month or two or three(=before I move on to Perth...
Unfortunately my friends are no kiters,so they have no idea where to go.
Still I wanna check out the victorian kite scene a bit.
where would you go without a car to go kiting from Melbourne? Oh and flat water preferred, never been to waves so far and I really dont wanna be washed away to the Antarctica(=
Do you have good winds in september?

Thanks for your help!!
Anja (spending her last weeks in good old Germany)

Hi Anja

St.kilda is probly the best option for flat water and is easily accesable being close to the city and public transport. September is the start of the season and the months after that should just get better as we get into summer .

here is a map of where it is ... www.google.com.au:443/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

hope it helps enjoy

ps. im sure you will find plenty of kiters at St kilda

Buenos dias

St Kilda is your best bet, it's easy to get to on public transport and is a good flat water location. September will still be quite cold and we haven't had any decent wind for many months now (only northerlies which don't work for anywhere near the city). Bring a kite but don't get your hopes up too much.

Feel free to send me a message when you get here if you need help.

Try Brighton... Great for all winds except those with an easterly component.

Check out www.kitebeach.com.au and dont forget to look at the KBV web site http://www.kbv.org.au for locations guides.

september can be awesome, in 07 september was sickkk and we got wind every day for like 15 days in a row or sumthing, and i learnt to ride upwind through to backroll in those days but last year september was pretty average with about 10-15 days kiteable in the month. st kilda is the best place as has been said, but brighton, altona and hampton are also good and for northerlies rosebud/rye and point henry are good (sometimes brighton can be aswell)

Cool thanks, well I'm looking forward to try some spots and maybe even stay in the Melbourne area a bit longer up to a year
I'll try the train to Aspendale for sure! basically I'm searching for something in a 150km radius around melbourne, where I can live cheap, have good people around me and of course good winds! If you know some spot like that feel free to betray it to me(=
Cheers for now!
C ya on the water soon!

hi anja,

your english seems good but perhaps you should read the post that suggests aspendale again. you may change your mind?

i kite via public transport in melbourne and my favourite accessible spots are altona if the wind is from the east to south west, and brighton if its westerly to northerly. altona a five minute walk from train to beach. brighton ten minutes.

st.kilda has a higher pose factor, some folk like that, it's not my cup of tea.

viel spass,

I only suggested Aspendale because of the peoples friendly nature, i find anything further north has a high pose factor, and Altona smells realy bad, in fact your gear will smell for weeks gauranteed.Plus it will be much cheaper to find somewhere to live Around Aspendale.

to the last guy that posted: how does one "pose" in kitesurfing?

I ve seen a few posts say that kiters in st kilda pose, how is that done?

Having played guitar since age 13 I can teach you how to pose correctly
when it comes to guitar playing. easy, spread your legs, wear the guitar fairly low and hammer the strings whilst making faces. add a few accessoires such as sunglasses, tight jeans, a t-shirt, makeup if you re in a glam band and voila: you re posing!

however im baffled, how does one pose in kitesurfing?

cheers,
eric, self proclaimed guitar posing expert

hi ericmb, you are kind of correct in that the stance, you as a guitarist ie.legs apart, fairly low is classed as A pose. where my meaning is 1,to act as a particular character, with a view to the impression of others 2,to pretend to be something or someone.3,pretence of being some character or having some quality or feeling which is completely false.
so you, hammering the strings, knowing how to play, is a cool pose, them with there kites blown up ,sitting on a retaining wall while its blowing, is a gay pose.

Ok guys I decided that I wanna get a room in rye or surroundings cuz obviously its good for kiting and a friend of mine works nearby! Does anyone have a tip or knows someone who's got a room for rent (or even better a campervan for sale?)

Hi Ganja, Rye is very good for kiting when the wind is coming from the north, which does happen but not as much as the south west, which rye is good for on the ocean side, but i doubt you want to kite in massive surf.If you plan on getting transport Rye would be great but if you dont have transport Rye will be not so great.
