All,

I remember a post on the forum from last year where kitesurfers and the schools agreed to an arrangement where the schools would stay away from a certain area
so we could launch. I had a look for the post but couldnt find it, sorry.

So my beef is that at that very spot all 3 schools are giving lessons now, there is just nowhere to launch safely without risking getting a kite in the head.

Is there a way the schools at St Kilda could adhere to our gentlemans agreement please?

peace,
Eric

No one told me of such an agreement, with regards to Launching and landing.

Personally i think the council were too lenient with the school permits allowing each school to have 6 instructor working at one time thats 24 instructors capable of teaching 48 students 48 kites. INSANE.

If you post on here where we should be launching and setting up etc i will try and make sure that we (Katani) stick to that.
Must admit it sure is a mine field out there.

While we are kind of on subject can we try and persuade other people using the beach here to roll up their line after their session or at lesat throw them inside the kite, as there are way too many lines and kites left lying around and unsecured.

This is a public and dog walkers beach after all and there is a fairly high general public traffic.

The agreement was a while back. I'm pretty sure someone from katani attended the discussion at St Kilda because we had representation at the beach from most of the schools.

The discussion was that no launching or landing would take place to the left of the right edge of the pavilion to allow advanced and intermediate riders space to launch at the top of the sandbank and an area to enter the water without having beginners being instructed upwind of them.

This was the original image that was submitted as a suggestion. The beach component was ignored but the launching and landing component was accepted by all the schools at the time. Basically, in line with the stair case (next to the restaurant) and anything left of it is off limits to the schools.

Agree on the kite lines thing. No need to waste space on a already congested beach.

I dont see what all that fuss is about...St Kilda beach is a deserted beach...there is plenty of room even for dogs and the walkers.....if you want to see crowded beach go to Europe in summer time.......lets enjoy that empty place....St Kilda is really fantastic place for everyone.........including the dogs

I disagree mate, its not on to not have somewhere safe to launch. its not on for anybody with a kite, this is not anti kite school. it is about safety.

I also disagree on the dogs, especially that ****ing dog that tore a hole in my kite this afternoon.

Dogs and kites don't really mix. Had a dog put stacks of holes in my kites a couple of years ago - very annoying.
