Heads up, I thought we were a bit better off then St.Kilda but obviously not...

Anyhow was riding past saw a gentlemen pick up a few near the drain/storm water run off closer to the pier and dispose of them. So hats off to him.

The beach is groomed but the areas with those bushes aren't so we can ask the council to get rid of them due to hypodermic needles not being able to be groomed (the ones im talking about are the one's closer to the water which like to tangle up lines) :P

My second proposal of how to deal with the junkie f@ks

Hi,
Fiona from Hobsons Bay Leader newspaper. Are sharps a problem at Altona Beach? Should people be warned and more pressure put on the council to get rid of them? Let me know at [email protected]
Cheers

Hi Fiona,
I have been there a few times a week for the past few months for kitesurfing and exercise (running along the beach). I have never seen any needles, and apart from a little bit of rubbish at low tide and around the drain, it is a beautiful beach.

Please don't do what News.com.au always seems to do, and blow everything completely out of proportion.

Ditto,

Altona is a nice and generally clean beach the council does put a bit of effort into cleaning it,
This could happen/ does happen at any beach as they can float with the tide

It was mostly a word of warning to keep an eye out and if any kiters see them to pick them up safely and dispose of them appropriately so children and other beach goers don't stumble upon them...

The only reason I brought up the thread is that it is a more common occurance at st kilda, and very rare at altona.

(We kiters also have bit of an inside joke with things whether it was dogs, power lines, stingrays, sea urchents ect ) basically why it should be avoided by those on the other side of the bridge. But everyone is more then welcome :) just play by the rules and be safe
