Hello, I'm 15 from Victoria and I've just completed my 5 hours worth of lessons and have gotten up to the stage of body dragging. Just wondering if anyone would be willing to give me some more practice body dragging and help me get up and riding a twintip? :)
A few months ago I was pretty much where you are now. Getting going on the board is where some people get to on the third lesson; but many don't. I sure didn't and it took me 10 solo sessions until everything clicked and now my life has changed forever. When the wind blows there's nothing else I can think of.
Most of the initial learning in kiteboarding happens once you venture forth (usually with your own gear and hopefully with a mate to keep an eye on you). Just starting out where you are is an interesting time because you still haven't got the assurance yet of knowing you'll be up and riding one day soon; but you have got a taste of the power of the kite and you want to be doing what all those other guys and girls are - cruising up and down, jumping, and maybe even pulling off some tricks.
This is just my 2c worth so take it or leave it; but the next step could be taking the plunge and getting yourself some gear. Kite shops will sometimes demo; but they'll need to know that you won't trash their kites. You might get lucky asking someone on the beach; but most of the time if the wind is blowing, they'll want to be take advantage of it.
Do you have any mates who live close and are around the same weight that you can split the costs of gear with to share? I had enough saved up to buy new; but if you don't there is so much info on here and other sites reviewing kites and boards of the past few years. Most people in the buy and sell section are asking fair prices as the market is pretty transparent and you'd be better off buying from a fellow kiter than some dodgy dude on gumtree. You can usually tell if someone's legit by how long they've been a member.
Plenty of used kites here on seabreeze as well as aussies boarders swap shop Facebook page. last seasons kite usually drop as much as half price and more if older. i would also look at how used the kite is (wear and tear, rips , etc) some older kites can still be as good as new as some people take really good care of their kites. Kiteshops are also a great alternative, a lot of people trade their old gear in for new ones. check out (theZu, kite republic, SHQ, RPS, KSS).
