El Niño is a Pacific Ocean phenomenon, but we do get an indirect result which is an increase in the number of cyclone's. These are bad news for the west coast as they usually kill the sea breezes.
just my opinion but I think El Niño is bad news for WA, but not as bad as it is for the east coast.
Just skim-read towards the bottom of this link
http://www.climatekelpie.com.au/understand-climate/weather-and-climate-drivers/western-australiaWhich says an el-ni?o actually reduces the freq of tropical cyclones in Western Australia (la-nina's are the opposite and produce more.)
The one thing it had in common with the BOM literature is that WA does not get affected by el-ni?o's much.
North and central America absolutely pump (surfing wise) through an El Ni?o though so book your tickets ASAP.
