Hi all
Thinking about a mission to Esperance for the weekend some time. Is the season different from Perth and how consistent is it? I imagine it's a bit less predictable than Perth being on the Southern ocean. Dont want to get all the way there and discover there's now wind

The season is prettty much the same as Perth I believe, however the wind is not normally as strong or consistent and is generally SE not SW.
It is definitely a bit fickle and it is often on down there when it's troughed out up here and vice versa.
I went down for a week a couple of weeks back and by Wednesday night I was nearly ready to pack up and head for the West Coast but got a bit of wind and a couple of sessions in on the Thursday so hung around and had one of the best days ever on the Friday. Surf in the morning, stapless session with the 12 in some big clean waves midday, downwinder strapped on the 9 in the arvo (again with some good swell), then a late arvy session lit on the 6.
Cheers for the downwinder Andrew it was awesome , did you end up with any decent footage?

Bottom line is it's a long way to go for just a couple of days and yes there is quite a possibility of missing out but when it's on it's gold.

hey durks, check the forecast mate, that will tell ya what you need to know , esperance is in wa, australia ,(most city folk have never heard of it little own been there (the locals like it that way) and yes when its summer in perth its the same down there.. amazing.
the swell in espo,s is alot more consistent than most of wa (the mighty southern ocean), however some of the islands shelter certain bays and coves so if you rock up to one beach and its not on, just drive around to the next headland and take a peek,,, you might be suprised... a 4x4 is a great option however alot of the good spots are on the loop!!
if in doubt ask a local , there are some very heavy spots that can turn nasty within seconds.. pole dancers have been on to it for years, in the 1990,s they had state wave comps down there around new years eve, so if you fancy a bit of a drive (it takes a day) you might want to stay longer than a weekend. dont forget it repeatibly gets voted for the best beaches in the world, good line to con the missus to sneak in a few more days..
