Hey everyone,
I’m Eric, a 23-year-old kiter from Germany. Kiting for almost 3 years now in Vacations. I’m planning a permanent move to Perth in 2028 and figured it’s never too early to say hi to the local crew.
I’m pretty chill and just looking for adventures and good wind. I’m keen to become a long-term local, so I’m trying to get a feel for the scene before I head over.
Quick question for you guys: If I’m looking for a share house with a good vibe and easy access to the water, which suburbs should I be scouting? Not to far from the CBD.
Looking forward to a session and a beer with some of you in a couple of years.
Cheers, Eric

What's your poison, waves, flatwater, bump n jump, downwinders? Are you going to be working in the city?

You'll need to define ''not too far from the CBD'' .... for the average Australian, ''not too far'' could mean driving 45+ minutes...

As mentioned, it also depends whether you want to kite flat water or waves.

if you don't mind gusty winds but you prefer flat water whilst being within a 20 min drive to the city. think about staying close to the river in Perth (Applecross, Melville, Attadale).

if you prefer ocean kiting, waves and downwinders, think about Swanbourne, City Beach, Cottesloe or even Scarborough. Most of these are also about a 20 min drive to the city.

If good vibes, going out, nightlife, etc is what you're after, definitely consider Scarborough.

Have a look at our location guide to get familiar with the popular kite spots, pros and cons, etc.: www.kitebud.com.au/locations/

Also worth a read if it's your first time kiting in Perth: www.kitebud.com.au/perths-kitesurfing-travellers-guide/

By waves the locals mean monster wind chop in Perth. The continental shelf extends very far out to sea and there are barrier islands around perth that very few real swell get through
For real waves you have to travel a couple of hours north or south of Perth

The monster wind chop is not terrible though for an after work session.

You are either extremely skilled or extremely lucky.
I also think you have 10s of thousands of hours surfing that beach.
If that had been me I would most likely been 3m behind you upside down being monstered by the double up
Its definitely no One eye with a consistent wall

P.s Isn't kite SURFING going down wind with no power in the kite
