Since there are many riders who are not WAKSA members for whatever reasons, how bout the idea of free membership with the purchase of a new kite from WA stores. It only means the stores bump up the price on a $2000 kite by $60.

Good idea, but I think the days of anyone paying 2G for a new kite are soon over. If not already.

Also the proportion of kites bought over the internet is increasing and will continue to increase.

Forget the line flag or colouful bib, how bout a big Waksa sticker on the wing tip for Cot users, given away with any new or 2nd hand kite, or just given away.

here is another idea, we could start placing identifying number on kites linked to waksa mambership, this will allow the identification of each individual rider not wether or not they are a member. we have had this in sailing for years to identify who was in what position with races, in this instance it could be similar to number plates as it tries to instigate some sort of social responsibility.
its SAD that it has come to this but this is what has happened.
by the way i'm not yet a member, i tried downloading the form off the aksa site but couldn't do it, is there anynoe to contact for this

Nice one Punchy! I have always thought this would be a good idea. The only problem I can see with having a number on the kite is that you would need to go through a whole palava if you want to sell your kite, ie: changing over the number to your new kite or transferring the ownership of that number to the new owner. This wouldn't be that bad if the kite was sold through a shop, but if it was sold in the quokka or something some dodgy characters could just skip it. It would also lead to having to have multiple numbers for one person if he/she had more than one kite.
I think some kind of tag you can velcro to your spreader bar would be a good idea though. Then each person could have a unique number and an expiry date, more like a rego sticker for your car than a number plate. What do you think?

not a bad idea at all howley. the only reason why i suggested numbers on the kites was so they could be seen a long distance off. that way if someone is obviously doing something stupid, you don't have to wait till they come to shore. getting the numbers off is easy- white spirit takes them off in less than 2 minutes, and if the previous owner is still liable for any actions under their own number they are likely to take the numbers off themselves before they are sold. personally though i don't really want to place numbers over my kite and like the idea of the rego sticker thought more. in the words i heard during my first lesson "we do this to look cool" a series of numbers over the kite may not do the look cool factor any favours

Ice Cold - you may have missed a few posts over the last week , but the Rangers at the Cottesloe Council are in the process right now of getting kiting Banned in the enrire Cottesloe Shire. That is why we are all talking about it TODAY. See WAKSA site for details.
