Hi!

I am Lieke, a 33 year old dutch girl and moved to Perth 2 months ago.

I have been kitesurfing twice, but want to go more often.

It would be nice to meet some fellow kitesurfers, to go kitesurfing together and have a good time. Since I haven't been kitesurfing that long, I am more comfortable to go to flat water places :)

I hope to hear from you!

Cheers Lieke

Hello diamond! I'll keep that spot in mind if there's an easterly. Can I get there with public transport, because I don't have a car. Hope to see you there :)

+1 for Point Walter ( Attadale Beach) on Easterly and Northerly .. Re public transport : Its just down the street from Santa Maria College so look for a bus that goes to that school. prob a bus from Freo .... the spot is basically at the end of Stock or Moreing rd .and then head down to the river and look for kites. .. see you down there ..

Woodman Point and Safety Bay (the Pond) are the best flat water spots when the sea breeze blows here in the local area Woodies has 3 beaches to choose from!

Woodies is too crowded in the summer..to many egos challenging for there own little space ..what a debacle that joint is!

Maybe steer clear of the pond for a while until your skills improve a bit. People get annoyed with learning and mowing the lawn there.

Shoalwater would be a better option, flattish although not as shallow

Thanks for the tips everyone! Woodies has been pretty good to me, nice and quiet in winter. I have a car to use at the moment so I can try more places. I'll probably try Leighton beach this Friday.. Any of you guys are coming to winter camp competition at Leighton? This weekend is cancelled but maybe next weekend. If its on a saterday I will volunteer.
And do people really get annoyed with beginners at the pond? I mean, everybody's got to learn.. I can manage myself a bit now, but even if I didn't.. Now I just want to go there and annoy some people haha!
Hope to meet you all soon!

Space is an issue there just like surfing waves there is a small spot which everyone wants there space .Add some egos and show offs and its a recipe for disaster.August will be the last month this year where you will find space to do your thing there. Its like woodies .Its better in the winter. Its butter flat water which is hard to find.I will be searching this summer up and down the coast for similar spots.I have found similar locations ,but the take some driving to get too..So welcome to the kiteboarding adventure..it's all about finding new locations!

Yes - if you are trying to learn on the inside, especially at the closed end. The end part is where a lot of tricks are practiced and if someone is floundering around in this zone, everyone who has lined up in the circuit has to cancel their trick and do another lap.. it can be very annoying and kind of spoils the vibe, and for someone to learn right here is simply inconsiderate and realistically dangerous when its busy.

but.. no problem at all to come to the pond and learn on the outside of the sand bank - its still flat and shallow, more space and learner friendly, or as NickT suggested - up the road at Shoalwater/Penguin Island.. just a minute drive further up.

flat water is defiantly the best for trying new tricks for free style, but when there is 60 riders in the pond getting ****ty with not geting there turn especially If someone stacks it and has to go for board retrieval.whats the point you may aswell hit some kickers and practice in the waves over the white wash as that is nice and flat too and just about every beach has that.
I don't know why freestyles don't get into down winders you can pop tricks one after the other over the white wash and have space and no boring mowing the lawns geting back up wind.
I can't understand the obsession for woodies or the pond when there is 100's of kiters there!
Most pro riders ride in all sorts of conditions and that's what makes them the best in the world because they get out of there comfort zones!
