I guess I'm not too enthusiastic about the positioning of the drum lines at Mullaloo.
The line seems about 250-300m ish off the southern end of the kiting zone.
I bet the Mullaloo clubbies are not impressed either, they regularly swim and paddle they're goat boaty things that far out.
I was under the impression the lines were to be set 1km offshore.

The kiting area at Mullaloo is kinda small 200m of beach to launch and land and having another three bouys to negotiate on your seaward tack is going to cause problems when it's busy and reduce the size of the kiting area further.
I understand WAKSA and the local kiting community worked hard to cement a kiting area on the beach and it's sad that the area hasn't been respected.

I'm not concerned about the whole shark debate, I don't see it as a major problem anyway you look at it but I do have concerns about placing baited lines in a kiting zone.

Fat boy is under a bit of public pressure at the moment , enticing a few sharks to catch nearer to the beach and at populated areas will release that pressure, that's how it works

Hey all, has anyone perhaps marked the location of the drum line with a GPS?

Surely we can negotiate with...um, well someone, Colin perhaps, to move it if we get the facts straight? I have not managed to get a session in since the placement of this item, but am not to keen to kite around Mullas if it is in fact so close - my lawn mowing typically takes me out further than 250-300m off shore.

Most of us head right out back beyond the drum lines. Not so keen now. I'm sure if we find the right person and yes right facts we can debate to have it moved.

I've started a new post, but here is a better answer. we need to think out side of the box and fix the root cause to this issue.

Drum lines are a work around that's not going to work over time, we need to deal with the root cause (yes it nerds ITIL). The root cause to big sharks coming in and eating people are there isn't enough food out deep for them. Let's fix the root cause and build artificial reefs for fish to live in. We have no real ground in the metro area, so lets build artificial reefs and not let anyone fish them for 5 - 10 years. Even replenish the reef with fish like kingfish, CSS is having a great new record in breading fish (kingfish). Let's build homes for fish and replenish the fish stock. If the sharks have food out there, then they don't need to come in and eat us. The drum lines will do one thing which as a temporary measure, which will reduce the big fish, which will reduce the competition for food. But if we don't deal with the root cause and we keep over fishing, this problem is only going to get worse. I started kiting last year because I can kite when it's too windy to fish and there isn't the fish out there of 10 years ago. We over use all of our natural resources. If we really want to be real let's force the government to spend the cash now, build the habitat and populate it. Stop anyone fishing them and the fish will over populate these reefs and move to the natural reefs, it's a win win for everyone

^^ why not just repopulate the existing reef running along the majority of Perth? Ban fishing on that reef completely for a few years.
