We are now in Perth for 2 months or so. We live in Joondanna and I was wondering about where would be the quickest place to go kitesurfing after work on the ocean side (we are working at UWA so I can also go to the river but I am so fond of flat water)? How do the parking regulations work?

Second questions is : we plan a surf/kitesurf trip on the west coast from mi-december to mid-January and we have to make a decision about the car. Rental car for Perth + camper hire for the trip (we are 2 adults and 2 small kids) or I could buy a car now (camper rental is very expensive). The objective is not really to save money but to go wherever we want (plenty of restrictions apply on rental here). Do we need to find a 4wd or a standard station wagon (+ roof tent) or van would do the trick?

Thanks for the info on mullaloo and pinnaroo point, I'll drive there to have a look once we have sorted out practical things ... child care, work, ...

As for our trip, we have planned nothing yet. The only thing we know is that we will have 3/4 weeks free and we want to go free camping with our boys and do some surf and kite surf. Our budget is not that large but as we will not pay the rent anymore this can be used for the trip.
