Just elaborating a bit on all this... the whole area at Pelican Point is a nature reserve.
That means that CALM have a huge amount of pull in what goes on down there... thankfully, they are kindly 'allowing' (for want of putting it a better way) us to use the area for kiting, however they are expecting that we respect the wildlife and the 'rules' so to speak.
There is a sign, it will be going up very soon. Basically it says
ATTENTION - KITE EXCLUSION ZONE
The beach area beyond this fence is a nature reserve and access is restricted.
Please do not rig or launch kites beyond this fence.
That obviously means that it doesn't matter what the wind direction is. It's each person's choice where you kite depending on conditions, but know that if people persist in rigging on the point etc, we will eventually be banned from the area.
