Hello, can anyone help me with info on places to kite in Albany? Also, which wind directions are suitable at each place, and any hazards to be aware of? (I can only kite in cross-shore to cross-on wind). A friend and I are thinking of heading down sometime in the next few weeks. Thanks in advance

Hopefully kiting is not the main goal of this trip and your expectations are low, otherwise there's a good chance you'll be disappointed. The best times for Albany is when the weather gets super hot in Perth and there is no seabreeze, which means 100% guarantee you'll get cranking Easterlies in Albany and many KM of uncrowded flat water.

As Bene313 said, winds can be frontal at this time of year which can be quite dangerous. A few months ago I was kiting in the Vancouver peninsula on a seemingly weak Westerly front and wind went from 10-15 knots straight to 30-35 knots, scary stuff.

Hey there,

Its not all bad down here, this time of year we can get some nice north westerlies, westerlies and even some north easterlies come through, if you can jag it.
Shoal bay is a great place to kite in any kind of westerly providing the tide isn't really high.

Its true we do get some stormy frontal weather come through occasionally that can get really gusty but on clear sunny days or just plain overcast days it still lots of fun!!
That being said we certainly don't get that many kite-able days this time of year compared to summer

Our summer seabreeze is totally different to perth, the prominent wind direction from nov - march is east, regardless of what its blowing up there ;)
