Hey people,
I'm new to kiteboarding and would welcome any tips on equipment selection.
I've been to 4 different kite sellers and they havnt been too consistent with their info reguarding kite and board size.
I have a wakeboard and surfing background and should pick it up alright once i get the hang of a kite.
I weigh around the 100kg mark with the winter coat off. (i'm a big fella, not a minke whale)
I will be getting some lessons, but want an idea of what i need before i get it rammed down my throat with a package deal. I'll be buying new gear ,possibly 2 different sizes while i can because the mrs won't let me next year.(she wants a holiday).
thanks for any info
p.s are Cabrinhas really that bad? they seem to have been torn new a$$holes around here

Hi mate,
If your new to kiting with a wakeboard / surfing background you need to get on to a hybrid kite, this is a combination of a bow and c kite. The problem with starting with a bow kite is they'll tend to limit you from progressing too much if you pick it up real quick, the hybrid will have the safety and relaunch capabilities of a bow, with the performance of a c.
You'd need quite a large board, something around the 136 - 140 mark and if you're buying two kites it depends on the brand but probably a 9 - 10 as your main kite and a 12-13 as your light wind kite. I definitely recommend airush with the vapour 3 being an excellent selection.
Get a cheap seat harness to start out with, they're extremely lame but the last thing you need while your flying through the air on the beach toward hard objects trying to work out why you're not stronger than the kite is a harness underneath your chin..
Let me know if you need anymore info / good spots to purchase equipment from..
