if she is afraid of sharks then best move to another country and get lessons as we have white pointers in the ocean and also bull sharks in the river . No where is safe in the metro area

Also lots of sharks outside of Metro area but nobody is spotting them on a day-to-day basis so one doesn't know if they are around or not until ...

Sounds like you definately have your finger on the pulse there LHB when it comes to lessons.

The fact is that on the river it's also interupted easterly (from the mountains bouncing and swirling around) wind which is unstable and not exactly the best to learn in. (eg kite jumping around, dropping out of the sky, difficulty in self rescuing)

Also the instructors on the river don't teach with headzone radio helmets. They will just yell at you or hang onto you...

If you want a consistent learning experience you need to stay away from the river and head over to the ocean side. If the school you choose doesn't have headzone then you are getting ripped off.

Thank me later.

Just think for a second, your girlfriends got a 8m in the sky, something happens, instructor does'nt react in time, jo public is taken out by a out of control kite,
question 1. Who gets sued
question 2. who gets bad publicity

I don't think there's been a fatal shark attack in the river for about 50 years, so you chances of getting eaten there are pretty slim. But like someone said, those radio helmets are the go. You'll get twice as much learning in per lesson as someone that doesn't have one.

Try the school in Safety bay,the water is pretty shallow there.
I am not sure about the name, I mean the school right in front of the pond.
Maybe the name is WA kite or something.

Jason from West Oz runs the lessons down at Safety Bay, they seem to be switched on, they even carry the kite back sometimes. They use the headsets and the water is nice, shallow and warm.

If you're worried about sharks, they'll probably go for me as I teabag further out after stacking (these stacks happen a lot, maybe I should have some lessons)

hey
if your GF is on face book get her to add www.facebook.com/groups/wackwack/

We're a girls kiting group. It's a great way to help her ease into kiting by being around other female kiters. Also one of our admins is just as scared of sharks :)

Also she can ask questions of other kiters.

Cheers

p.s. we have a camping weekend on the long weekend in lancelin

Try this school : soulkiteaustralia.com/
I learnt kitesurf in this school with really good instructors. A nice experience !
I recommend !!

Nick

they give lessons according to their website in 3 locations that are not good for beginners .

Pelican point ?

**** me are you serious . one of the worst spots for beginners with no margin for error .

http://www.soulkiteaustralia.com/about-us.html

This is directly lifted from their website:

These locations are great place to learn kiteboarding, with wide beaches, windy almost every day between november to june.

An interesting comment from the operators of a Perth/Fremantle kite school. My experience as a kiter in Perth is that the windy season pretty much dies in late Feb/early March and winter storms don't really kick in until July (and winter isn't the best time of year to teach/learn....)

So how the **** does this school intend to teach "almost every day between november & june..."

To say nothing about teaching at Pelican Point. One can only wonder about the level of their local knowledge.....

Hi Padrino,

If you really loved your girlfriend, you wouldn't be looking for the cheapest kite school in Perth, you would be looking for the best.

Try buying her the cheapest engagement ring in Perth and see how well that goes down, or buy her the cheapest car or cheapest anything for that matter.

Good luck with that

Cheap and nasty.....its a saying for a reason.
Confidence will come with a school with friendly and experienced instructors
Helmets with radio
A boat to do rescues if needed
I went with aks and couldnt fault them. Also they have a female instructor.

What don't you guys think that cheapest means its a few dollars cheaper than most, he's not asking for a lesson based on $10p/h, but thats prob what most are prob paying the instructor when you sit and work out the houly rate form the time they start to finish.
