Hi all,

I m going to travel on the coast down to Perth this next 2 weeks from wednesday. I m travelling by car with my kite gear, and i hope to catch some wind. But i m still beginner in the sport (few days of pratice after my lessons), so i like when there is some other kiters around, and i would like to know the safe spots.
I already know safety bay, woodman point for the spots around Perth. i will probably spend few days there if the wind is good. But what about down in the south? Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Cape naturaliste, Margaret River, Cape Leeuwin, Albany, and after until Esperance? That's my travel plan but not sure to go until Esperance as i have to go back in Perth after.
I know there is some good waves spots but it's not at all what i need as a kitesurfing newbie :/

If there is some people interesting for the trip, you are welcome as well :)

Thanks for your help!

You have picked one of the worst times of the year for kitesurfing the south west..Inconsistant wind now .you might get some odd days here and there that worth while. Mandurah estuary is great for beginers ,augusta too, and albany has many shallow flat water locations. Esperance is for big waves and the swells are now picking up.Strong currents and rips are everywhere. The south coast is not a good area for beginers.

+1 Mandurah Estuary ( Wannanup) and Augusta.

Be v careful of open ocean kiting down south.. as Diamond says it currents and rips etc .. not really suitable for beginners. Stick with river and estuary if you can.

I think you may find that Augusta is pretty good this time of year and maybe for another month or so .. season always sees to go a bit longer down there .. I reckon a 50 /50 chance for getting ok wind.. definitely worth a try.

Frenchie , If you are going to be in Augusta / Margaret river maybe book a lesson with the guy who teaches down there .. his name is Jason I think ? look up Margaret River Kitesurfing .... The rivermouth is a bit tricky there and it would be well worth getting him to show you the ropes especially if there is no one around..

Have a great trip !!

South coast sea breezes are easterly or SE. You may get some wind, but it can be very fickle.

Safe, flat water spots are few and far between. Apart from the estuary's mentioned already, one of your best options is The Spit off Frenchman Bay Rd.

Okay thanks for your help! I will check this spots on my way soon. Hope to get some wind!
Don't worrie I m not crazy enough to risk my life (or at least my kite) in the waves and gusty winds of the south coast. I will keep myself safe! ;)

Cheers

The Mandurah estuary is very good on a ssw wind and is a very good place to learn it is shallow (knee/Waist) deep for about 1k out. The people down there are always willing to help and its a nice spot to chill also. The only negative is that is can be gusty.

Good luck with your search.
