I have had great success in putting up a notice in the [W.A.] windsurfing forum, asking for donations of unwanted gear for school projects.

The response usually swamps me - and often I have not been able to collect all gear offered.

We also find heaps at our local council recycling depot, at around $15 an item for sails, masts, booms.

One time, after a particularly messy [weather wise] weekend, we salvaged a pile of snapped masts and torn sails from a beach carpark skip-bin and used them as donors for parts.

Even damaged sails and snapped masts are worth collecting - as they can be stripped down, modified or converted for use.
