Hi all,

I know this is out of the usual requests, but I have been tasked with designing a land yacht that has a mechanical propulsion system in the form of pedals, chain and sprocket. The whole concept of adding pedals to a land yacht has thrown up many issues with the whole design and I am thinking about making it a rear wheel drive i.e. with the sprocket and driving force going to the rear wheels and front wheel steering.
Would there be any good possibilities and designs you could think of?

Thanks for your help

Goggle Seagull Landyachts. They have a model called the Urban that does exactly what you want.

personally If I was to do this i would build a yacht with front pedal drive, either hand or foot driven. the fork angle that most systems use is strangely 30degrees. the whole thing would then be forward and in a clean area, even consider having the sail at the back , wikibike style. driving to the rear is makeing all sorts of engineering headaches , whilst front drive is almost all from existing components
