I'm putting together my first land yacht, and figuring it out as I go along. I am trying to find out what people commonly use for masts. I'm doing it on a restricted budget, so buying a fiber mast looks a bit out of range. My rig is made mostly out of rectangular steel tube, and is about 5 ft wide, by 8 ft long. I saw someone note that they used a long chain-link fencing pole, but thought I'd look around for more ideas. Anyone????Also, what size based on those dims?

Most people find that old secondhand windsurfer masts are the most suitable for their home design landyachts
They can be picked up for very reasonable prices in the right areas Cheaper than making one of lesser quality

Alex, I don't know if you have come across these plans for a Mini5.6.... Becoming popular in the US.

For best performance find the stiffest windsurfer mast you can. The higher the IMCS to better.
