Hi guys

After placing the land yacht project on hold for a bit, I have now got back into it, and I am pretty happy with the results so far.
I have made some minor changes to the plans on the forum here, mainly to allow the whole thing to fit into the boot of our Mazda6.
Hoping to get it all done before christmas (just working a bit on weekends at the moment, hard working full time and still trying to keep the family happy)

At this stage just going with the plain bearing offered with the fallshaw wheels and the steel wheel i have at the front (place in Brissy I bought them from only had 2 in stock). Hopefully they last at least my first session!

Still deciding on what type of seating to make up, and how to setup the mast. It is a 4.8, long "serfiac" sail board mast - chopped in half from when i picked it up (got it for $35 can't complain)

cheers,
Brett

nice looking piece of work there bludbunny. that bolt set up ,midchassis is going to take a lot of shear pressure. you may want to consider an extra layer of steel over the outside of the hole and some kind of reinforcing on the inide of the narrower diameter section. I can imagine it all collapsing in a good wind.
is the tubing quite a light wall? looks like trampline tube.
I just had to do some similar re-enforcing on a CLass after only 1 sail.but then I was pushing the yacht hard

Great job!! I really like the idea of being able to break it down that small!

As you've got a nice long inner section would it be worthwhile putting a second bolt though it to share the load?

Hi guys

The tubing is "council give-way sign grade" 60x2 / 2.5 I believe. Bought it from the local recycle centre (new cutoffs) for $2 per 800mm length.
Definately strong enough - though I do share the same concern shown regarding the shear stress on the single bolt. There is plenty of room for a second bolt, I may even look at some sort of fixed locking bolt underneath to hold the whole lot together in case of bolt failure. Can't think of anything worse after getting some speed up than having the whole thing collapse on me!
Hoping to get down the shed this arvo to get stuck into the steering, and start working out a seat setup. Thinking of just going with the ply for now...
