Hi guys, I'm looking for some BASIC info here, more to the point, a supplier either online or in Brisbane, that can put me onto some 3m Seam Stick tape - I want to make a basic V sail for my fishing Kayak (Sit on Top style)

I've read that it's pretty handy and I'll be using it to construct the pockets either side to hold the "masts" I suppose.

Basic idea is here - http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/grantglazer/kayak/Hintssail.htm

Cheers,

Ben

I use a cheap double sided tape from a cheap shop CRAZY CLARKS , they dont always have it so when they do I buy the lot. . I stick then sew the seams. If its for a small kayak sail the weight of material could be sewn on a household machine.

I'll keep a look out for some of that. I'm kind of looking to stay away from sewing anything...Ripstop Nylon is the other thin I'm looking for - Any local people that supply that ?

If you dont have a sewing machine, cut out and stick your sail then take it into a sewing machine shop and ask for a demo of a machine.

Cheap tent from kmart or just a tent fly from a camping store. it will be sheaper than trying to source it as material

For the tape, try a kite shop. I got some for my model yacht from a shop that repairs kite surfer's kites, however it was bloody expensive. Last time I went there they didn't have any as they changed hands and just sell recreational kites.

That's a pretty good call, I'll check for cheap tents at the regulars, based on that, those cheap sun shades could probably be used too.

I think they might be a little curious as to why I'm "demo-ing" a machine with a purpose in mind ahah

This might sound silly or obvious.
cut out and mark, stick the sail, take into a sewing machine shop, with a plate of HOT freshly puchased muffins, or doughnuts, tell the truth , and look like a poor hopeless batchelor.
It would have to work
please try it and report back, just for our entertainment

Might have a word to the mother-in-law - although last time she made curtains, they were short by a LONG way haha

You can get any colour of ripstop nylon you like at your local Spotlight store. I've been buying it for kites for years.

Sewing is easy, you're better off doing it yourself so you can modify the design as you go (or realise that the design you thought would work won't really

I would definitely sew the ripstop rather than stick it together, when at sea you really want everything to be 100%... well I do at least.
