Gidday all,

Brain picking time

I am trying to get the costs down for the local school- the students are building 6 lefroy minis, but they are really stretching thier budget since Fallshaw wheels are now $66.00 each- (not including bearings)
We will be sticking to Fallshaw for the rear wheels but hope to be able to save a few bob by recycling bike wheels for the front.

Any advice regarding what type of bike wheels are best to use would be a help, stuff like what width, diameter, material (steel spokes or plastic?) any particular type to avoid like the plague.

As soon as I know what to look for I can let the kids loose with some spanners!

Thanks in advance!

Stephen.

I think you would be fairly safe using any 12.5 x 2.25 wheel as blokarts have. The load on the front is fairly light in comparison to the rear.

The size is very common on baby prams and you will find plenty of them at the dump as well as kiddies bikes.

This is where I scource tyres for the front wheel of my blokart.

Several of the builders on the forum have adapted BMX front forks and steering heads for the front ends on LLF Minis.

Sounds like a great project.

12 wheels, surely there would be some kind of discount for that quantity. Maybe a group buy - anybody else want any? I'll put my hand up for 3 if it helps.

when the school got the quote for 18 wheels (6 yachts) thier collective jaw kinda dropped, and the price was identical from 2 different shops,

After speaking to the school teachers this morning it looks like they might have convinced the bean counters that it is safer to stick with fallshaws instead of using scrounged bike wheels on the front.
