Ive been asked about how cammed sailboard sails go on landyachts. They have been tried over the years , mainly unsuccesfully.
The following reasons are my opinions , so feel free to disagree.
They immediatelly give you a sail that is way too full for a landyacht. on water you can flatten the sail by moving your mast back as you accelerate you also pull the mast to windward to create lift, also hard in a landyacht as this woul d reduce traction on the wheelsand create excessive leeway.
most landyachts tend to have a rig with little initial downhaul and outhaul that is often adjustable with speed. As the yacht accelerates the sheeting pulls everything into shape. The faster yachts tend to be the ones that have pilots who pay attentionto what is happening as the sail accelerates.
Blokarts do have higher degrees of pre tensioningdue to a boom set in the sail and a more flexible mast. it would be a good idea for other types of landyacht salors to study rather than mock BLOkarts as there are some really good ideas that could be adapted to other yachts
