Hi there, just joined this forum to try and get some info and find out about modern land yachts, I live in the uk and haven't sailed a land yacht for about 20 years, and have missed doing so just about every day since, so i have decided to do something about it and start with some research but there doesn't seem to be much on the internet related to sailing in the uk, is there anyone on here from the uk, or is it just me ? i'm interested in class 5 yachts as that is what i used to sail, where i live we have several beaches within a half hour of each other that are all perfect for land yachts, if it's not windy enough at one beach, it will be at another on the other side of our peninsular

Looking forward to your replies, Thanks

Welcome Dan!! I think you're our first UK correspondent. We do have Jeqs who contributes some great stuff from Chile though. Let the rest of your UK landsailors know they are more than welcome here!! As things slow down here over winter it will be great to hear about your sailing season.

We're privileged to have some very experienced landsailors on here who helped start the landsailing association down here many years ago and who have raced internationally with great success. I'm sure they'd love to answer any questions you may have.

EDIT: Sorry I have just remembered we have Richard Jenkins (Windjet) on here from the UK who will be down here later this year attempting to break the windpowered land speed record.

i think everybody over here is too busy sailing or tinkering with their yachts to bother checking emails and forums, i've sent a few to the contacts at my nearest clubs and had no replies, and the forum on the BFSLYC site may as well not be there, i found a yacht for sale on ebay (uk) but it's at least 2 hours drive from where i live ( i know thats nothing to you guys in oz, but given the price of fuel over here at the moment, it means an expensive trip if i get there and it's no good ) when i stopped sailing 20 years ago the seagull yacht was the one to have, and from what i've seen that design has inspired much of what we're seeing these days, i've had a look around the forum and there seems to be a lot of good info

I presume you mean the QUEBEC. I saied in Lytham in '87 and I think it would have been more fun to sit on the beach and watch Jean-Phillipe and the rest of the French sail.
In Europe the dominant yachts seem to be 1 STANDART. Im told that most of the UK cl5 pilots have gone to them or alternatively 2 the PROMO. the PROMO was introduced last year and is basically a CL 5 with restricted chassis options and wheel barrow wheels. I have one here in OZ and personally believe they may yet save FISLY from the graveyard. If wou are a really big lad or just fat I would not suggest PROMO in anything less than 25knts on abeach in Europe. the bigger pilots seem to be heading for CL 3.
the fastest PROMOS at the moment are the Seagull ones but the best of the Rest in at the WC 08 was ROBERTO SCARVI (ARG 25)in a yacht he built himself. This shows that you can beat the manufacturers hold on sailing.
There is an alterative to the FISLY thing if good sailing and close class racing is your thing. There is a little yacht called the BLOKART that is giving FISLY a run for its money. I dont think you would be dissapointed with them. PLease dont let anybody know I said this as I am regarded in some circles as the ANTI BLOKART MAN.and they may want to string me upfor even mentioning the word
anyway welcome back and see you on a beach

HI Mr Nice, you are showing your age and so are we! Yes landyacht raced and so did I (my first comp). Also on this forum and racing in Lytham is 87 was Faze 5 and his good lady. That year there was 13 ladies entered in class 5 and we raced seperately to the men. With couples sharing yachts.

i found the photos yesterday, the one i remembered of the score board was a bit out of focus and it must have been taken on the first day as there are no results on it yet, i can just make out your names ( only just ), there a few pics of the start line and such mainly of the class 5 yachts, but there are a few of the class 3 and 2, just need to borrow a scanner now and get them on here, i have a picture of a group of pilots that attended a race day on our beach, mainly from the fylde club, you may be able to put some names to the faces
