Hi,

Yes, I need help moderating this forum, and Hills has put his hat in the ring to assist, and I'd be keen to accept.

Any objections, or other nominations?

Thanks,
Laurie

Gosh Guy's what a pitty it has come to this - thanks Laurie for coming up with the offer to have another moderator rather than just deciding that the landyacht forum is not worth the headache and pulling the pin on us all.

Personally guys I think all the name calling and personal attacks are way out of line and make you look like a bunch of school boy's. I think it is time to grow up.

How about we start some new threads with some reasonable questions and reasonalbe answers? We do not have to agree...thats the good thing about debate...the opportunity to put forward a different perspective and enlighten. Not to mud sling - lets leave that up to the politicians in Canberra.

Starting new threads will let the ones with shamefull comments in drop down and hopefully die away.

Lets all take on board some lessons learnt from this and clean up our acts, listen to moderator comments, pay head of other forum users feedback (thumbs up, thumbs down), sleep on a post over night before going ahead and posting and importantly when we do over step the mark being man (or woman) enough to say sorry and/or delete the post.

Who is definately not intested in being part of what I have seen over the last week. But who is optomistic that we are all better than this and things will improve.

Thanks for the comments people!

I agree with you Promo Girl and to that end I'd like people to also consider her for the moderator's role if she's ineterested of course, hence I nominate Promo Girl.

Who knows perhaps theres enough momentum here to have 2 LY moderators!

In a ideal world "Moderators" are not needed as we know we do not live in an ideal world but lets start with one Moderator under Laurie's direction and see how we go.
If there is still problems changes can be made later. Ideally the
forum should be self moderating giving the Moderators little to do. Just my thoughts.

Thanks Hills for your vote of confidence.

I agree with Gizmo that 1 moderator to assist Laurie should be ample as we all progress back toward self-moderation. As self moderation should surely be the goal

Moderators also need to be reading the forum on a fairly regular basis - this is not something I can commit too anyway. I am not in the position to read and post any more than spasmodically.

My vote's for hills too.

Don't know what I've missed, not sure if I want to, but if the post on my totally green thread is anything to go by it should stop pretty rapid.

Thanks Laurie and all above! Laurie has given me some very good guide lines to abide by and I'm glad to say I completely agree with all of them.

If we can get things back on track, which I'm sure we can, then I'll have very little to do.

Basically the only thing I'm going to do for now is try and clean up the class 6 thread and delete any offensive comments that don't add anything to the debate. I'll make it clear where I have changed a post and why.

Cheers

Phil

If it ain't itchy, don't scratch it. If we all obey the forum rules and have mutual respect for each other, hills will have nothing to do as a moderator.

I hope that is what will happen. In my opinion it is OK to attack (I prefer the word challenge) what a person says by way of asking what the logic or underpinning facts are but it is not OK to attack the person or his/her background.

I think the "Quote" button gets a bit overused on the forum. Cheers Cisco

"challenge" or maybe suggest other points of view-like my recent post regards the construction of a mini (Cisco -I took the liberty of using a photo of Diablo )

I agree with all of you, I think any point of view can be posted without having to break the forum's rules.

I will not edit or delete a post that hasn't broken the rules, but has "challenged" me. I think you'll see evidence of that by one of the existing posts in the "totally green" thread.

Hey Hills, welcome to the extra buttons and the 'grey areas' of moderation.

Pity you're in SA, we've almost got enough moderators for a moderator's party. Let us know if you're ever in town and we should all catch up for a beer.

Cheers Pat, there's a lot over in WA to attract a landsailor (and a bluewater sailor for that matter!), so a trip over is definitely on the radar!
