Hey guys,

Has anyone here organised freight for a windsurf sail? The battans seem problematic as the maximum length that Aussie post will accept is 105cm. I ask because the pickings for larger sails in Vic a bit slim at the moment.

Cheers,

Adam.

Yeah! I have used courier services they are a little expensive but they can cart that stuff. Try fastway.com I used them. www.fastway.org/16Home_FWGlobal.html

Dunno about sails, but when I get fibreglass framed kites they just roll the spars up into a curve. I realize that cant happen for carbon tube battens but the fibre glass ones will curve into the 105mm x105mm x 100mm that Aussie post has handled for me. (a 4.2m2 C Quad from Melbourne) cost $17.25 registered post to Esperance.
Just some food for thought.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm interested in this KA-Kaos sail : www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/post.asp?method=Reply&TOPIC_ID=85619&FORUM_ID=42

But don't fancy the drive from Melbourne to Inverloch.

Maybe I'll send the bloke another email, as you say if he could bend the battons into a 105 X 60 X 10 box (that's the maximum size due to the 140cm maximum girth) then it would cost me 20 bucks in postage.

Regional bus companies will often carry freight as well. My in-laws are farmers and on occasions get drive shafts etc sent from the city via bus freighting.

bending that kind of batten will stuff it , also you have the problem with creasing monofilm material.
unfortunately, the freight costs of moving good sailsis often more than what you paid for the sail.
how far is inverloch from melbourne?
do you have any friends that have freight accounts for their work that you can use?this can make a huge price difference.

Less than 200k????? Surely you not of Aussie Origin??? It would be far cheaper for you to drive up there and Pick It Up yourself????? Garn! Be a Devil and take th' Missus for a trip and a day in "The Big Smoke"
Dang I have shot down to Hobart for the Day and come home again in the evening.

LOL, yeah ok so shipping is an issue. Maybe driving down there would be better.

Having said that, the bloke hasn't replied to my sms's or emails, so maybe it's not for sale anymore.

Good news! Sounds like the sail will have plenty of opportunities to come my way.

Looking forward to a new sail making project.
