Hi all, I would love to give this sport a go as it looks fantastic fun. Living in Tasmania i don't thinks there is anywhere to hire. So is there anyone on here from Tassie that's into the sport or knows somewhere i can give it a go? Maybe someone could advise the best avenue to purchase second hand or a new model best for a beginner? Any advise would be great and thanks in advance.

Hi there, and welcome to the forum!

Look around the forum and find 'Nikrum" posts. he lives in Tassie, and has at least 2 builds under his belt. A few videos he made are on here too... Send him a PM, and see if he can help you out

Thanks for the advise desertyank, I will seek him out, I'm not really into the DIY to start with so may be best to buy an entry level Blokart. Ian

Entry level Blokart = a couple of grand [to start with]

DIY Lefroy mini = a couple of hundred plus your time.

as Desert Yank said, give Nikrum a buzz, he has built a couple of different landyachts and has a ripper time with them.

Don't be put off if you lack skills - practically everything is "off the shelf" and the plans are easy to follow.

Welding can be subcontracted to friends / local trade schools or similar.

The bodywork can be as simple or complex as you want, from plywood cable-tied together then overlaid with fibreglass at the seams - to carbon fibre.
heck - blokes have even made the body out of corrugated cardboard!

To keep things simple, the mast, boom and sails can be left without any major modifications [apart from strengthening the bottom metre of the mast.]
This is as easy as stuffing a piece of close fitting timber, or a section of damaged mast, inside the base of the mast to reinforce it.

There is someone else in Tassie hooked on landyachts, but the name escapes me, however - give Nikrum a call and you cant go wrong - at the very least he would be happy to give you a spin and some pointers.
