Hello one and all. Time for me to jump in the deep end and do a little research.

As everyone is probably aware, the ALSA issue continues to be the source of some unhappiness on the forums here. No new news there.

What I want to find out is how many people are out there that are interested in becoming members of a remote land sailing group?

Im willing to do a bit of ground work to find a suitable online 'venue' for us, anything from a forum similar to here, a mailing list (online and/or snail mail), website, etc may be appropriate so long as communication is effective, but only if enough members are present to begin with and survive effectively. What I can say is that because comunication and affiliation with ALSA would be occuring, there would be a fee of some amount for ALSA. The club's primary aims (I imagine) will be to comunicate info, give representation to its members at ALSA meetings and a very cool banner to sail under . The particulars are not yet being decided, I (and others I suspect) would simply appreciate some info on numbers willing.

So what about it people, do we have any prospective members? Im willing.

I must also say that anyone can PM me and I'll add +1 to the list, I wont add details as its come to my attention that some may fear a 'trodding on toes' situation. Just giving the offer

Thanks for the interest cisco and Kody, that brings the current total to 4 prospective members. I think we need a few more

EDIT: +1 more, up to 5. By the way remote doesn't neccesarily mean geographically isolated.

My son and myself are interested too,

although we live in wanneroo, I dont have the free time to justify belonging to a "regular" club- and my saturdays are taken by the rifle club during my rdo's.

the lefroy mini that we are building is close to being finished, (should be done when I get back home next) and once that is up and running we will be building a second.

Hi Lachlan
Could all those interested in forming a remote area club/group, submit a design for the club logo and a vote be taken for a suitable style that may appeal to the group members? Just a thought.

Thats what I was hoping for Kody with most desisions.

In any case, I certainly wont be troubled if anyone feels like tackling the logo artwork and then having a good chat about it What about a name as well while people are thinking?

To start the ball rolling...............to be honest I hope it rolls a fair bit further I like the 'L' and landyacht though.

the Australian Remote Land Sailers Group

Anyone think this could be confused with remote controled land sailing activities??

EDIT: Can anyone who is interested in joining this little venture send me their email address at:

[email protected]

Thanks, this way I can have you all as a mailing list and keep you updated

Thanks Joe. Keep up the good work, hows your own (landyacht) construction project coming along?

Another question for the thread, Im deciding whether to build a website for us, primary communication will be via email but I was thinking a site will help recruit/showoff when required

Nah, no Blowie yet. Waiting for the little windfall needed. The urge is returning now that the short days are done with for a while. My brother in Mackay is putting on the pressure. One day sooon...

Yeah, quite a few building up. I see the hard thing is going to be choosing, still haven't seen a name that screams USE ME! Think Im going to have to have to dictate a little and decide a short list for a vote. Ill give it a little while longer

Heres another: Federated Australian Isolated Landsailors (FAIL)

Wind On Wheels Sailing Assoc of Australia (WOWSAA) is a good suggestion. I do have a soft spot for acronyms (I think thats the right thing) that can be spoken as a word, even a made up one. Yep, thesis and all course work handed in which is why I wanted to start this little project.

And dont forget to send me your emails addresses to:

More variations fitting the acronym prerequisite:

Landsailing Australia Networked Devotees = LAND
Australian Land Yachting Advancement Society = ALYAS
United Land Sailors Australia = ULSA
Networked Australian Landsailing Enthusiasts = NALE
Landsailing Australia Group = LAG
Greater Networked Australian Remote Land Yachters = GNARLY !!

I can keep churning them out...hehe

Definately! Keep em comin'

Im still brainstorming too. Trying to find something that wont be confused with the national body (ie. ALSA) and that describes the club reasonably. This is harder than I thought

Think I better set a time limit. Ill take all suggestions until Wednesday night and then try to narrow the choices down for a final vote on the weekend maybe (not a strict ruling though )

Watch out for the A,R,S, L combinations, you dont wanna end up the:

Australian Remote Sailors Outback Landsailing Society = ARSOLS (i.e: Arseholes)

Haha

Goodluck with it

That probably wasn't the best first post on your forum, but I mean it in all good ways

Land sailing looks interesting and fast, might try it one day

Saw the blokarts at some shows, whilst sail perving, the bottom is a bit different but!

The big landsailers look pretty crazy

Just some ideas I used when cutting the list down:

Using the term 'Network' without mentioning 'isolated' gives impression this could be a union type movement (may get ALSA angry).
Also mention isolated as this defines the club from others and dont use remote (unless as 'remote land sailors') because of the confusion with radio controled models.
Stay away from using Seabreeze as ALSA don’t appear to like it.

And I apologise in advance to anyone who suggested names which i've deleted, I just put them all in a big list and started cutting so it was nothing personal In the end there was two whole pages worth of names

Hope to hear what people think, give a brief explanation if possible why you picked or wanted your choice.

I like Network of Australian Isolated Land Sailors (NAILS) as its descriptive, not too much of a tongue twister, is quite formal in case we ever have to get insurance, promotion, etc, and you can add a few cliched phrases regarding nails and holding stuff(ie: landsailing) together

I think your choice is a good one Lachlan. The only thing I would say is that "Networked Australian Isolated Land Sailors" may be marginally better than "Network of..." just my 2c worth. But I like NAILS, it sounds like it could hold things together well and as long as it doesn't get rusty or bend easily when getting hammered .. sorry.

Hi Lachie
I think NAILS is great but what about using the word "National"
instead of Networked

Yes...No rusty bits or tetnus shots required

I was worried the term 'Networked' may not go well with ALSA as I find it describes less a finite group of people (ie: club), than 'Network of'. Unfortunately, appeasing ALSA will be half the purpose of this group so we're able to ask some good questions and to do that I think we need to make ALSA comfortable as possible. Using 'Network of' says that only members will be distributed info, rather than anyone. What say you all?

As for 'National' instead of 'Network of/ Networked', I cant see a problem with it other than whats the name become? National Associated Isolated Land Sailors give my tongue the twists a little Im sure a better one is around

A limit to Aus was only because we will be dealing with the/a Australian national association. Seabreeze is here for all international visitors and Im sure any info we have can be given to them via the forums And also because NILS doesn't have the same ring to it

Keep the talk coming, discussion is good.
