Here are my top 5 tips for getting into Land Yachting

This is a summary of my opinion based on my last 6 years into the sport.

1. MAST. Get your hands on the best mast you can. This is the most important piece of equipment. You will keep it for a long time and will hopefully travel with you through the sport.

2.SAILS. These are the engine of your yacht. Buy/make the best sail that suits your sailing venue and your needs.

3. CHASSIS. This transfers the power from your rig to the ground. Your ideal chassis will be: light, strong, aerodynamic, comfortable and tuneable ( mast rake, wheel alignment etc)

4. TUNING. Once your yacht is together and sailing, performance can be improved through tuning things such as: battens, wheel alignment, mast rake, tyre pressures, pilot position, bearings etc.

5.EDUCATION. By far the single biggest influence on how a yacht performs is the pilot. Spend time learning how to sail will give you the biggest return on your investment.

Whenever you get an opportunity sail as many other yachts as you can so you can.

I'd put your last point first, sail with others, see how you perform against them and use that as a benchmark.

My last point is to sail in other yachts not just your own personal yacht.

Sail minis, CL5, Blokart etc anything with a sail and wheels.

I started with a production Blokart. This was my benchmark for my mini. I kept the Blokart until I could build a mini that had better performance.
