Has anyone tried fitting the wider wheelbarrow tyres to the Fallshaw wheels? My tyres seem a little narrow for the softer beach sand down here in Busselton. Had a sail the other day with my newly completed mini and she wouldn't get going on a dry paddock, didn't even try the beach as the wind was gusty and straight down the beach, would have run downwind I reckon but I didn't fancy a long walk home. I then picked on a sealed road between grassed playing fields and away she went, luckily not a cop in sight and I didn't hit a tree - that must rate as a successful day!! All stripped down today while I get a coat of paint in place. What about those wide tyres, will they fit on the plastic rims?

They fit but you cant inflate too high a pressure or leave at inflated pressure as with heat they will tend to distort the rim

Thanks TP. What pressure do you think they can tolerate? The idea is to have them flattish to cope with the beach here so will investigate the cost as I think to buy the matching rims is a bit expensive and they wouldn't fit my axle stubs. Wish we had your lake down this way. I will probably do a few trips up to Walyungup later, it's about 2 hours from here but notice that many others travel longer distances. Is my old yacht "Insalt" from the early 80's still up that way? ..Wok

yacht is long gone, but the sail was rescued from undr atree and used on TP1's first mini, thus it has also gone but from use not abuse.
a 4.00x6 tytre will fit a 4.00x4 rim , but the important thing here is weight, you may need to cut/buff all the tread off to keep things light. you couldalso consider fitting some kite buggy tyres, or look for some worn 8"quad bike tyres
gizmo found some lawnmower tyres a few years back but they were gone on his next visit

Hi Paul. Well that is interesting, the frame was made of ungalvanised 1.25" electrical conduit so I'm not surprised it has gone to God...RIP "Insalt"

Found some 6.50 tyres ($50 with tubes) and some 7.50 ($64 with tubes) as well but think the later would really test the 4.00 plastic rims unless kept very soft. Both were 4 ply walls.

Question - how do you trim the treads? Do you use an electrical wood plane while rotating the wheel or a course sanding disc? I have a larger sail at hand so might try that first before lashing out for more tyres. Enjoy the weekend, I'm off radio yacht sailing this arvo...if it doesn't rain the as the boffins have threatened.....Wok

Hats off to the Boffins...it rained not 20 minutes later, looks like an all day drizzle.

OK! Here's C10 worth from me.. Think about gpoing to your local flying Field and cadging some used Aircraft tyre.. I am still using them on Occam's Razor,,,,, Happily. Look at 6"x6" Rim sizes as Edwards Adelaide

http://www.edwardskartwheels.com.au/kartwheelsdirtracing/ They were $45 a couple of years ago so they are a good Cheap Rim. I had a blow out on the Cheap Plastic Barrow Rims a week or so back.. Blew them up using the Thumb as a Gauge (Rule of Thumb). You know thrust the thumb into the side walls until you think they hard enough, about an hour in the sum and KARRRRUUUUMPP! It tore part of the bead from the tire and wrecked the inner tube--------"BIG TIME"
Point being the Cheap Chinese tires are about as much use as Pockets in your Underpants..(Plastic Rubbish). Find the extra cash even if you have to rob yer poor ol' Gran'ma
Ron
PS; on soft sand you will need a lot mor Sail PSI to get moving.
