Has anyone tried out lake barlee for landyachting?

Its west of leonora.

I fly over it every couple of weeks on the way to/from work- and it is absolutely huge,

looks like a huge archipeligo with heaps of islands to sail round, and it looks like there is access to some type of settlement, but from the height we fly over it I cant tell if its a station or touristy operation.

If access was ok it would be a great place to explore by landyacht, just a bit out of the way for most people...

Wow I just googled it, its a strange looking lake with all those islands. You're right though it would be great to sail around them. Landyachtings version of the "Greek Islands"

I wonder what the surface is like??

When we fly over lake barlee we are still fairly low (just a bit lower the the google satellite) and it looks much better from our altitude than googles.

I dont know how big the lake is but it takes a long time to pass over it- and the view of the hundreds of islands is very clear, I would like to have a sticky beak- but I cant get there from work- and I finish up here at the end of the month when the mine has its next round of lay-offs.

It looks like I soon will have some spare time to mess about with our MK3 version of a lefroy mini!

Ah....... Lake barleeeeeeeeeee.
Its been a long time , But I dont reckon even global warming could make that @#$%^$ lake hard enough.
Spent a long hot afternoon digging out of that one when I worked there in the mid 80's. we would sail class 5 yachts across country in the sparse Mulga.
If your bored try googling Lake Deborah west. It has roads , tracks , a salt works( active), not too far from Koolyanobbing, ,an Iron Ore mine, ya might get a job, vermin fence goes really close to Deborah east.
You have to look for really WHITE lakes with as few islands as possible

the lakes around kooly looked pretty good close-up, when I worked for Orica (based at southern cross) I had to do the trip to windarling via kooly and mount jackson using the private haul road between the 3 mines. Had to drive back on public roads a few times when the private road was closed due to rain- salt lakes everywhere but no time to explore.

Unfortunately- Brandrill (who I work for now) just lost the drill and blast contracts at windy and kooly to BGC, and our fellas are finishing up there about the same time I finish up here at sinclair!
