Well if Golf can get into the Olympics at Rio, there's every chance, seen as that's not really a sport is it[}:)]

Having been to the worlds, I don't think there's enough participants in the sport currently to be taken seriously as a contender for a slot at the Olympics....but then who would have thought BMX would be there now

I think that it would just take a bit of effort at promoting the sport and getting it out in the public eye a bit more and you never know

Col,
I'd be a little wary of statements like that. Some keen golfer might take a poke at you. Mind you, nothing sillier than smacking a little white ball with a stick and then chasing it down to smack it again..Huh!

You are right Beachball.. We need more interest in our sport.. I do find it lonesome out on a 12kilometer beach by myself and I think it will be the same on Ocean Beach near Strahan.. We need a Higher Profile.

Usually to get a sport into the Olympics it is introduced as a demonstration sport and that tends to raise its profile dramatically

It will never happen. With a dis functional international body. The sport as such has no hope,FISlY has to get its act together ,when and when that happens ,who knows

Even with a perfect situation it would need to get as popular to kite boarding to even get a look-in.
Kite boarding will be in the 2016 Olympics.....

Perhaps the problem is that they simply dont have the corporate possibilities for some organization to buy them up.
keep in mind they are volunteers. Im personally rather impressed by what they have achieved on a budget on literally nothing.
taking an olympic commitee out to lunch would bankrupt them

i didn't start this thread to "bash" anyone it was merely a thought on my part as i was sitting watching the BMX at the games and the thought just occured to me, that was the reason for the post in the first place, not to bash any group or committee or anything like that...oh by the way i'm heading to perth for a week on business leaving adelaide on the 21st hope to get some time to drop into kal on the way over or way back,,, and maybe cacth up to a few over the west if possible..

So Startrek, I see that the UAE is not a FISLY member.
Please tell us all about what you as an individual, your club or UAE national landsailing association do to promote landsailing in the UAE and how you help other countries around the globe to do so also ?

What has FISLY done wrong or not done ?

I am really interested to see what you think FISLY member countries and volunteers could improve upon.
Remember, the best way to bring about change is to get involved.

There are people who say "what happened" and there are those who make things happen !

Those of us serious about the sport we enjoy try to make things happen by putting ourselves forward and getting our hands dirty so to speak. We learn from others and we ask them how we may assist in improving the sport, which is why I am asking you the questions.

Cheers

Quote from Startrek "There are a lot countries that have a problem with FiSly

" Unquote.

Startrek , rather than just whinging on, what about putting some meat on your comments and backing up what you say with some facts.
Perhaps you will answer another question Will Oharry or is it Will or Harry, I'm sorry I cant figure out your name from your forum profile (apologies) , so what countries are you speaking on behalf of and what problems are you speaking of ?

Startrek, name the Countries that you speak of and who can I contact in those countries for advice?
I have asked for your help in my previous post and I now ask you the same questions again in the interest of clarity for myself and others who work to promote the sport.
If no one knows what the specific issues are then they cant be fixed. If you are genuinely interested in the sport you will be specific to allow others adress the problems !

So please Startrek to use popular jovial expressions, put your money where your mouth is and answer the questions that I have asked , or put up or shut up as we say in Ireland.

I'm sure that if you have any genuine interest in the sport or concerns about its promotion and development your response to my questions will be helpful to all others who are interested in promoting and developing the sport. I'm also pretty sure that if you have no interest in the sport and want to try and damage it and the hard work of others you will avoid answering the questions.

Apologies to you or others if you find my post tough or offensive as its not my intent.

Is any one else following this post interested in getting my questions answered ? Or, am I being unreasonable asking them so that I and others can try and figure what Startrek is on about in order to assist in corrective actions if required ?

Looks like Startrek has gone to ground or is not interested enough in the sport to answer my questions and help others !

Seems like some others have a problem with FISLY and me also but are not willing to explain what their issues are !

I got these cryptic messages tonight from someone relaying the results of a meeting of landsailors it seems.
In response I think its only fair that I should publicly apologise to Dave and anyone who I may have offended - I didnt think I offended anyone and none was intended . Its good to see that Dave suggests I also did some good on the Forum too. Thanks Dave.

FROM:
Dave Webster

Allen , we have had a meeting , we are not interested , you and FISLY , can go flap in the breeze , Yep thats 5 sailors that were looking at the next worlds , plus they were looking at standarts will relay that to seagull , your display on the seabreeze forum was good for land sailing down here

Have been told to tell you that we will not promote FISLY , in manner or form , Rather NALSA better organised an good people to deal with

Thanks for the update Alan. I guess you can see what we have put up with from this small group that know all the answers but are only happy when they post anonymous negative posts on here.(destroying ALSA to start there own association)now they want to go world wide. We wished them well with there new association but are not sure how well it is doing as appears to be a secret society.
I will wish Dave well in his new direction and hopefully they will now disappear for good. I live in hope .
Keep up the good work.

Well said Beachballs , same here just want to have fun and help others experience the sport that I love. !

Let's move on ..........

Over the years and in recent times FISLY have had meetings and discussions with the powers that be regarding olympic status, its an ongoing process but it will be a very very long road I gather.

This years World Championships had the largest number of countries ever participating so maybe we should all be working towards getting new countries involved / more attending the 2014 Worlds in USA ?

Suggestion: Your aim in Australia & New Zealand could be to build a big team through selection to represent your country at the next worlds. Getting publicity and building interest and membership as you do it.
(We did this in Ireland for the past two yrs and 20 travelled to the Worlds having had 3 at the previous World Championships)

Mind you, this years Aussie National Team while small on numbers made a big positive impression- well done Lyndon, Paul and team .

What is this Petty Squable? FISLY, UAE etc??? Seems to me there is some serious Jerking Off going on here.

I was of the understanding that we were Land Sailors with a common goal in mind, not mature Kids squabbling over a Cricket Set and who should Bat next.

Thank you once again my Theory is proven regarding Clubs. There is an Old Saying that goes "You can please some of the people All of the Time,
All of the People Some of the Time,
But can't please all of the People ALL of the Time!!

Just get on with the business of Land Yachting, forget the Bull' . If you can't Get on then which body started the Forum?? The other body should Start their own and stop BICKERING.

I think we have personal choices. Some of us are happy sailing alone or with a couple of friends but others love the club atmosphere and social sailing, and there are others who love to race.
To do that it to has be organized for that you need a club and to go further we need an international body(FISLY). I agree with you about the nameless people that have there own agenda that they should disappear to there own site of forum.

I love to race and belong to a great club(Sandgropers) and look forward to each event.I have great time being a member of the club that is well organized and run.

I also look forward to sailing with the Lefroy Club and when we travel there we are made very welcome and have a great time.

I guess you have had bad experiences in the past with clubs and power struggles(I know I have in motor sports when money came into it). I have not experienced it at a club level in land sailing.

This forum is great for helping people get an interest in land sailing and is read world wide. It is a pity that we have a couple of unnamed people coming on here hopping to cause conflict but that's life

I'm in shock - I applaud everything that people do on this site to assist others in this sport, its what I spend much of my own time trying to do. Keep up the good work everyone.

People are of course entitled to have diverse opinions and that is how we all learn and I welcome all opinions otherwise I can't learn !

However today for no reason that I know of or understand and like a bolt from the blue I received several threatening messages through another medium.
Threathening in many ways to me and to my character. I received these from a landsailor who says he represents other Australian Landsailors.

He asked me to put his messages onto Seabreeze but on reflection I have decided not to indulge him. If I have in some way offended anyone in Australia I dont know how I did it, but sorry if I did.

That is the sort of behavior I'm talking about, Ipska. There is absolutely no reason for it.. We all have our opinions and others are allowed to disagree and that is once again no reason to threaten or abuse another member. If a body is that badly in disagreement they should walk away and have no further contact with the perpetrators of that which is causing you grief. Behaving like a Spoiled Brat will only earn enmity. I think that people trying that caper are just attempting to bully their way through consensus of opinion and should be ignored completely.

Does anyone know what "Coventry" is (No not where but WHAT")? We should all take a vow to send these types to Coventry and ignore them at all costs, if they continue to fill our pages with Crud then is it possible to capture their IP address/info and lock them out? They do not have any Ballocks/Cajones if they behave like Caesars Little Dogs and run out of the dakr, bight ankles and hide in the dark again.

Only when we gain a public profile and not tear each others beliefs down willwe have a chance to become an Olympic Sport

either this^^^ or make it mandatory for names to be displayed.

I too am sick of hidden faces causing high blood pressure

Constructive criticism is fine by me- lord knows I am used to receiving it, but sniping from the shadows is unsportsmanlike.
